Wikipedia:
The word aeon, also spelled eon or æon, means "age", "forever" or "for eternity". It is a Latin transliteration from the koine Greek word ὁ αἰών (aion), from the archaic αἰϝών (aiwon).

Aeon is also an add-on for FIREFOX !!

There's a scaled-down picture on the page, which looks like this when you view it separately:

@Rogue,

You guys take these forum post to seriously! I know it's annoying to see users put down your hard work but, screw em! lets see them port something that nobody else can!

However, don't you think that work-in-progress screenshots do not necessarily represent the final product? Maybe that "unnecessary" bar is still there because we are currently reworking the way that AmigaOS sizes windows.

About the look, yes the default theme looks pretty horrible, we didn't bother to think about an AmigaOS default theme yet. These screenshots are there to present progress, nothing else. If you are building a house, you won't complain about the color of walls until they are actually painted, will you?

As for the speed, it will most likely be too slow for the classic. I think it will run alright on the SAM, depending on your definition of "alright" - I personally don't think Firefox is slow, although it seems to be a lot faster on Windows than it is on Linux.

Actually, they were intended to show off our progress on porting this Linux software to our OS that has been asked for since the source code of this Linux software was released, like, 8 years ago, a project that you are free to use or ignore as you like since we don't ask money for it (the donations are freely given, the project would probably be finished even if nobody had donated). It's the typical case of "take it or leave it", so I do not see any reason for you to put down the effort like this.

As for our overhyped new project, maybe you should again wait and see whether it is impressive or not. Your definition of "impressive" will certainly be adapted by you to proof your point here, but others will find it impressive, I am quite sure of that.

~~~ Rogue
Interesting site, even a guru meditation.
It asks what is "X" and calls it "Aeon."
The X Window System (commonly X or X11) is a computer software system and network protocol that provides a graphical user interface (GUI) for networked computers, and was initially developed as part of Project Athena. It implements the X display protocol and provides windowing on raster graphics (bitmap) computer displays and manages keyboard and pointing device control functions. In its standard distribution, it is a complete, albeit simple, display and human interface solution, but also delivers a standard toolkit and protocol stack for building graphical user interfaces on most Unix-like operating systems and OpenVMS, and has been ported to many other contemporary general purpose operating systems. Desktop environments of Unix-like operating systems offer the X Window System.
X provides the basic framework, or primitives, for building such GUI environments: drawing and moving windows on the screen and interacting with a mouse and/or keyboard. X does not mandate the user interface — individual client programs handle this. As such, the visual styling of X-based environments varies greatly; different programs may present radically different interfaces. X is built as an additional application layer on top of the operating system kernel.
Unlike previous display protocols, X was specifically designed to be used over network connections rather than on an integral or attached display device. X features network transparency: the machine where an application program (the client application) runs can differ from the user's local machine (the display server).
X originated at MIT in 1984. The current protocol version, X11, appeared in September 1987. The X.Org Foundation leads the X project, with the current reference implementation, X.Org Server, available as free and open source software under the MIT License and similar permissive licenses.
******************
So it would appear that X is coming to OS 4.1, which may be how Netscape and Apache are coming, Hyperion are porting X, great move, it should provide a lot of open source software quickly. Evolution, Open Office, the GIMP, Apache, maybe even MySQL all at once rather than one at a time. It would be a brilliant move.
Except that it's been done already. AmiCygnix is a port of the X-Server to AmigaOS 4.0 that has been around for years and includes some ports of Linux software to it. I thought that at first until I saw the circuit board picture shown in Motorollin's previous post. Also it's been said by Steven Solie (I think) and Hans-Joerg Frieden that it is a hardware-related project. The drivers that have been written for OS 4 for use with RadeonHD graphics cards would be immediately obsolete if X-Server were getting ported to Amiga in a hardware accelerated way like Linux has.
@persia
I don't see how having X as amiga UI would be brilliant at all. X is the worst thing in linux (performance-wise), and bringing it and its apps to amiga would only alienate it (at least if it was used as the default windowing system).
But anyway, it's very unlikely to be that (fortunately).
X is what drives the linux UI without it Gnome nor KDE or other would not work. X is accessible from any device running another x server. if the amiga OS had an X server wow is all i would say, my 1200ppc would be out of the dusty cupboard immediately.
