MP3 to IFF or MOD
« on: December 22, 2009, 04:28:06 PM »
Hi all got my self a project on the go.

I have got a spare 1200 and case so I so far have got an up and running A1200 original.
I want to do this mainly for nostalgia and games.
I am using OS3.9
Right now here is my question..............

Ok I can play MP3 on OS3.9 using Amplifier but this takes up a fair amount of power and its hard to do any thing else while listening to music.
So can I convert MP3 to IFF some thing that don't take up any real power so I can listen to music and do something else at the same time. or even MP3 to MOD or any thing that don't take up power.
I am using an Apollo Turbo Mk-III 030/40 with 32meg of Fastram.
Amiga 1200, 82gb HD, 4 way IDE\'97, DVD Multi-Recorder, OS3.9, BB1,BB2, Apollo Turbo MkII 030/40, 32meg Fastram, 4Gb CF card PCMCIA slot, IDE CF card adaptor 4Gb CF card, HP 810C, Alba HDTV, Converted PC PSU. C128, C64, C16, Plus4, 1701, 1570, 1541MkII, ARP6.0,KCS Power Cart, FreezeFrame MK3B, Freeze Machine, Simons Basic,  PSP, PS1, PS2, PS3 HDMI and 1TB HD+ 80gb USB HD, PS3 TV add on, Sound Surround speakers for PS2,PS3,PC, and Amiga Amazing so

mp3's are compressed audio.. its the playback/uncompress thats munching your cpu..  an uncompressed mp3 of say 3/4mb will be 40mb in wave uncompressed form.  not practical for storage.

an IFF probs would be huge too.
a MOD is a file containing samples, usually only a few hundred kb. a couple of mb at the most. Dont know the max file size on them.

I recommend using MPEGA command to convert MP3 file into AIFF. For more friendly use I suggest to obtain some frontend to it, eg. TheMPEGEncGUI (new name: CodeAudio).

Yes I understahd what you are saying, I do have an MP3 player and if it comes t it I use my Nokia e63 with external speakers for Mp3, but I thought it would be nice to have the Amiga playing the music. I am the type of person who says "If it can be done then do it."
