Default PC-Key install help

I'm doing a Amiga 1200 tower conversion and after buying a PC-Key 1200 off Elbox I could not get it to fit into the keyboard membrane slot on the motherboard so I emailed elbox and they say I have to take the white plastic around the slot for it to fit.

How do I do this because there were no instruction on how the fit the PC-key, hope someone can help with this.

The white plastic is the crimping sheath that holds the keyboard membrane into place. With care simply try to remove it without damaging incase you wish to reuse again in the future.

Be sure to fit the interface into the slot the correct way too.

As far as I remember, I gently lifted it away from the motherboard, pushed the new membrane into place, and pushed the white plastic back into the socket to retain the membrane. I didn't think it would connect properly if I didn't push the collar back in. This was over 10 years ago though !

Thumbs up Re: PC-Key install help

Hi,

After you have lifted the connecter up, remove the keyboard cable.

Make sure the white plastic connector is raised fully before you do this next bit !

To remove the white plastic retainer, gently pull the sides apart and it should come away easy.

Beware, over use of force when pulling the sides apart may snap the side off.

Regards, Michael

I tried lifting the plastic from the bottom with a thin bladed knife but only managed to chip a bit of plastic off and it didn't move, I did a search and found a pic of a PC-key in a 1200 but it still had the white plastic still on but Elbox say it should be removed.

If you don't remove that plastic sheath you'll not have adequate room to successfully insert the interface.

I've taken a photo of my a600 motherboard which utilises the same connector as the a1200.

Images are JPEG 640*480

Hope this helps.
