Amiga 3000 ROM tower
« on: November 27, 2009, 05:22:36 PM »
Hi,

I have an Amiga 3000 rev. 7.3 motherboard, and it uses the ROM tower for Kickstart ROMs. The motherboard itself has 4 Kickstart sockets, were the ROM tower connects to two of them. Any reason why the Kickstart ROMs can't be connected directly to the motherboard?

The ROMs I have seems to be erased; the sticker over the UV window startet to peel off, and I apparently didn't save it in time. As I have to buy new ROMs for it, as there anything I have to be aware of since I have a ROM tower or will any Amiga 3000 Kickstart set do?

If anyone has some Kickstart sockets, so I can increase the distance between the ROM tower and the rest of the A3000, then let me know. The ROM tower doesn't fit very tight as it is now, so adding a couple of Kickstart sockets will do the trick.

Thanks in advance.

If all 4 sockets are there, I'd think you can use the ones nearer the front of the board (or whichever set the tower wasn't in) with just ROMs and no tower, I'm pretty sure one of mine was set up that way.

You can use regular A3000 Kickstart 3.1 ROMs in the tower (27c200 or 400), or a different "special" EPROM set in the other sockets without the tower! (27C2048)
