Is it worth getting it if you have OS3.9-BB2 installed? Is it a good upgrade if you still use AGA, or even if you are GFX card equipped? Thanks! :-)

Most certainly.
DOpus is a lot more faster and flexible than Workbench, to put it very briefly. It also has a lot of features built in which are seperate to WB, like ToolsDaemon for example. You can run both WB and DOpus togther if you really want to, though most people prefer it in WB replacement mode. Buy a copy right now!! BTW, you'll need to patch it to version 5.82 to work correctly with the OS 3.9 glowicons, and possibly other stuff, though if you buy a new copy, it should already be 5.82. |

I'd have to say yes on this one, BUT...
It's an acquired taste. Like Marmite. Personally I like nearly everything about it. IMHO, I reckon if AmigaOS would adopt some of the features in Magellan it'd be SO much more than it is. The 1st example that springs to mind is having Magellan setup so that when I double click on the workbench background (ie. Not on an icon) I get a lister (Think of it as a requester only with more control). Using this, I rarely actually open drawers (Not folders ;-)) to run programs making every day use MUCH quicker since icons don't need to be loaded. Things like copying, renaming, moving, loading files & the like just whizz by. Actually, this is the main thing I'd like AmigaOS to do. The program, Class Action I think, doesn't have the same feel to it. That's more like running a program rather than it feeling like an intergrated part of your system. Fair enough, this may not be everyones cuppa, but it's just one example. There's enough more. Aaaaaaaand, I've probably waffled on more than you needed but still ;-) |

@Castellen & FuZion:
Thanks for the help. I am not sure what to do as it's quite pricey ($129AUD) for the full version, and it requires $39AUD more for the Dopus PLUS CD with extras. I want it, but man...it's quite expensive. Is it really THAT good? :-) Why the high price tag? |

DOpus is probably the best piece of Amiga software ever.
At first it seems a bit daunting,but persevere and spend some time configuring it and you won't be disappointed. If I can't use with OS4 I'll be really disappointed... |

@x56h34:
You probably don't need the DOpus Plus CD, it mainly contains extra filetypes, icons, themes, sounds, etc. Most of which are freely available from Aminet. Most of the stuff you need comes with the main DOpus package. As for the high price tag, well in general you often get what you pay for :-) Personally I thought it was fairly well priced. I'm not going to start another "best Amiga software thread", but DOpus always ranks among the best. Along with PFS3, get that too! Geez I love spending other people's money :-P |

DOpus and PFS3 are both excellent pieces of software. They definately improved my experience while im using them on Workbench 3.5. However, they did take some time to get used to them, but well worth it. Highly recommended :-)

I couldn`t imagine using th standard OS anymore. Its so much faster, smoother and easier to do almost everything. You`ll soon get used to everything. It unlocks so much more functionality, that needs millions of patches for the standard WB. Its one of the best peices of software ever, and my most used. I don`t know why some people don`t like it, I really don`t. If you want to stick to the classic AmigaOS don`t get it, but if you want something to improve it then buy it and buy it now!
I`ve only got v5.8. I didn`t register, can I still get that patch to v5.8? I seem to remember you had to register... |

The ONLY thing I haven't had is the DOpus Plus CD, as mentioned before, most (If not all) of it is on AmiNet. It just puts it in one place for you.
As you can see, DOpus Magellan II is something else. Hope you enjoy & if you have any probs, drop a post. We all seem to have it so answers will come thick & fast :-) |

It's absolutely the best piece of software I've bought ever too
I haven't regret single moment of buying and supporting it. Just couldn't use Amiga without Magellan2 anymore (tried it couple of times, can't do it) Price isn't that high when you compare it to games for example.. just little bit more than games nowadays and many many times more useful. It even comes with good and thick manuals, which is rare for today's software. Just the manuals would be the worth of the price

@AxE
Hisoft have it for £39.99. Since GPSoft still support it, it's still worth buying. A shout out to OS4 betatesters (and yes, we DO know who you are), does this work in OS4? -john

A word of caution:
Once you are comfortable with DOpus5 on your Amiga, you'll find the PC experience even more frustrating. I did and ended up buying DOpus6 to relieve that frustration.
