Default Amiga on portable apps??

Hi

Portable apps is if i understand one of the most downloaded pieces of software on sourceforge.
I saw that they had a secton called operating systems. I also saw that an old mac emulator was there. I noticed the complete lack of Amiga presence, why?. Has any one been in contact with these guys? Should'nt winuae be there to represent Amiga?? Or perhaps AmiKit or AmigaSYS??
Just a thought.

It's unlikely to happen, they'd need to pay a licence to Amiga Inc. to include the Amiga Kickstart ROM files (and btw since PortableApps is free, it would be the first time that the ROMs would be legally obtainable for free, unless some restricting licence to use them only together with the PortableApps launcher).

Luckily on Amiga we don't need such a tool, already most of the programs for Amiga run from a separate device without the need to install it

@Varthall

Yes, I understand the legal problems. But look what they wrote about the mac-on-a-stick.
Perhaps it could be up to the user to acquire the necessities.

Amiga the original portable apps OS. Nice angle. :-)

it's already - very briefly - been asked

http://portableapps.com/node/12807

no real answer (pay no attention to my lame response on that page) LOL, but it's up to the people who make WinUAE to make it portable.

it would be cool, tho

I tested to move a folder "winuae1610" that had a 3.1 install in it with rom and hd folders.
Placed it on the usb/portable apps folder and made it visible with options/refresh.
Changed the rom path and the hd path to the USB's in winuae config.

Took this to a win XP computer with no previous winuae install, and it worked so it's portable it seems.

Hope it will be posted in the operating systems category.

not quite as winuae still wants to create registry keys. so if you try to run it on a system that has the registry locked out for modification it will fail.

older versions worked bc they used ini files.

You can virtualize registry access. (EDIT: In Vista or later; otherwise, you need a third-party solution that works with user privileges. It's still possible. Other solutions include Microsoft App-V and VMware ThinApp, but most are either license restricted or for cost. Whether or not access to serial and parallel ports, Catweasels, and other hardware will work is another matter.)

So, a folder with the normal structure including this newly created winuae.ini next to the exe and it’s good to go as a portable with all abilities intact? How great! Thank you for the info.
