What's up!
I'm pretty much a lurker on here. I grew up with my Amigas (1000, then 3000, then 4000), and am very fond of the old times - so checking out the message boards is fun when I have a free minute or two. 9 or 10 years ago I got the itch and bought a used Amiga 1200 bundle from someone locally, but ended up parting it all out for quite a bit of profit when I got bored with it. Anyway, I was looking through some of my old stuff and found a print out of a chat I had with Jay Miner on his BBS many years back, I believe right before the 4000 was released. I was a very young "fan boy" a the time, and it shows - but I thought some might find it interesting to read. Something was up with my printer, which you'll see if you feel like reading, but it's still fairly easy to make heads or tails out of it. There are a lot of garbage characters in the text. Anyway, here it is: http://www.techav.com/misc/miner.pdf I also found this Amiga 4000T photo I took from a World of Amiga show. I believe this was a prototype, just before its release: http://www.techav.com/misc/4000t.jpg Here is me and my 3000 setup from back in the day: http://www.techav.com/misc/me3000.jpg I'll post more pics to this thread if I find anything interesting. I'm in the process of reading the pdf right now. However, I enjoyed the photos. The one with you and a friend hanging around your miggy brought back memories of friends coming over and hanging around my Amiga when I first bought it. Hot seat games were fun and passing around the joystick on singleplayer games rocked. Especially if you were anticipating getting around a tough spot due to insight from watching someone else play. I miss stuff like that.
Anyway, thanks for the memories (and the read) and welcome to A.org.

Wow man, You had a chat with Jay Miner !!!! For me, as an Engineer, this would be like being a priest talking to the Pope... Miner was the man...
Thanks for the material !! It was quite nice to share this. And welcome back to the Amiga ! |

The capture saved all the bytes sent over the serial line and when you printed it out, the printer did as it was told. |

I think I had that same kind of desk back in my A1000 days.. (actually back in the Atari 800 days) When I got a Phoenix expansion box for the 1000, I had to cut off the bottom of the center piece before the computer would fit.

Interesting twist... a buddy of mine from way back in the day who I sold my 3000 to is moving to NY, and he happens to still have it! I grab lunch with him once in a great while and never thought to ask.
I'm planning on grabbing it tomorrow... Hope it still works! Should be in great shape. If it's feasibe I'm hoping to clean it up do a few upgrades and reminisce. It's probably a stock CPU with maxed out RAM. I'm thinking the first thing I should do is replace the old hard drive. It was a very early 3000 (pre ordered when announced). If I remember correctly it loaded the kickstart from hard disk. Don't remember if I ever installed the ROMs when released. It's a blur to me. I've been trying to remember what I ever did with my 4000... |

Great historical docs! I hope you'll consider uploading to Aminet (I can hear the misc/antiq directory calling...
)Here are some other 4000T prototype photos: http://aminet.net/package/pix/illu/a4000t |
