Default Limited offer for the iMica AROS computer

Steve "ClusterUK" Jones has made an update about his Atom processor based iMica systems, which use Icaros Desktop as main operating system. Replacing the external case with a bigger one, he can now mount form-factor, standard DVD drives cutting the overall costs of the system. The iMica is now sold, until the end of July 2009, for £199.

The new iMica: isn't it cool?

As someone who just got rid of an Atom-based netbook because it was dreadfully slow and under powered, I'd have to say I'd rather see an AMD multi-core, or even Intel i7.

Yes, I know that would not be $199, but still.

BTW, has anyone thought of putting AROS / Icaros on a netbook?

Ofcourse, but the problem is that netbooks typically dont have a CD drive to boot from, and booting AROS from USB is in general not working well. Also, the disk drive in a netbook is not exactly something you can move to a different computer for installation (like I just did with my eee-box).

It would help alot if AROS could be launched from RAM disk, actually.

Next lil project as it happens cos it was a bit crappy running on VMWare under XP.

Cinq boot netbook

Got an external DVD writer shouldn't be a problem...

Was looking into a low power file server/media player machine and thinking about the atom but the Dual core 330 + Nvidia ION chipset looks like a better idea than the N270 + Intel 945... I like the case on the iMica

This red case could be THE perfect housing for a NatAmi...

Me - netbooks notebooks whatever. Unfortunately many notebooks (like mine hp550 Intel Celeron M) have SoC Video cards. I know netbooks have slower / more compact processors but still, SoC graphics, isn't it?

I made three attempts and just let it go... got AROS running under VMWare but it's kindda stupid... It's not a system - a virtual box... I wanna have one installed on my HD.
It's like UAE vs. Minimig (never saw one), I mean even the bloody AmigaForever player fails to do its job in terms of fidelity (sound).

One here reported too, AROS doesn't install on a Thinkpad. I know guys are trying but... it's been so many years for AROS development now... I think MacMini will put AROS out of business. Probably. I await a fresh air for my dying PPC Mini (although safari4 runs bloody fast).

The Intel Atom is a breathed over Pentium III Mobile core, mhz per mhz an Atom won't be much faster than a Pentium II M cpu.

Multi-core is not that fantastic either, what happened to Moor's law and all that single core exponential improvement eh? lol
