No picture when playing AGA demos on Access...
« on: October 16, 2003, 07:36:13 AM »
I dunno how many others have an Access, but it's an AGA Amiga clone with 2M chip, 8M fast and a 28 (or was it 25?) MHz 68030...

I'm usually running my workbench in dblpal or something, 64 colours (so AGA works just fine).

HOWEVER! :-)
When I play an AGA demo I've downloaded from the net I usually only see the first few effects and then the graphics stop showing and I get only music. This repeats if I retry, stops at excactly the same place. So I'm wondering if it's me or the Access that is being an idiot.

Yes, I know. I have chosen AmigaOne instead of Pegasos, making me an idiot in the eyes of people here, but when it comes to classic machines we should still be able to communicate, no? So lets rephrase and ask: is it only me, or is the Access an idiot as well?

Don't know about the Access. I'd love to have one, though ;-)

Joking or not, there was no need for that.

There are probablty timing differences between a real Aga board and the Access board, so anything that relies on the very precisice timing of the chips might fail. I imagine it was hard for the Access team to get hold of the same mobo support chips, and so different ones were used (causing the problems).

WTF!!!! I can't believe tyou said that, what kind of arogant little fule are you?!?!?

Have I chosen the Pegasos? No... Have I chosen the AmigaONE? no... I've chosen a differnt, path, and yet I find this site full of support for my personal choice, now take your stupid little predjudices away.

Grow up.

This is pretty far fetched. Amiga.org is home for everything which is Amiga related. So we have AmigaONE owners, Pegasos owners, Amithlon users, AROS users, Classic owners, and who knows what else.

One's preference doesn't automatically means he hates an other alternative or thinks of it's users as "idiots".

Feel yourself at home instead. :-)

If you bring up the early boot menu, what screenmode is it in? It it's ntsc, that'll be the problem.. Use something like degrader (or whatever util you prefer) to set the system to pal (or the early boot menu.)

Only thing I can think of..

Yeah, defend him and his biggoted views... I really do expect an appology for the original statement!

Someones personal choice of platfrom does not give anyone the right to critisise the users of this site.

@bloodline

I think the point you made about personel choice, is the same one the olegil was trying to make.

There is a minority on this site that do criticise based on the mobo choice. (This is not aimed at you)

Please note I am not attempting to speak on behalf of olegil, just explaining my interpretation.

Yes it is a dodgy picture, but what do you expect from a mobile phone camera!!

Oh yeah and I own an A1200T/060 with Mediator etc and an A1G3SE

Ok, so maybe it was a bit harsh, but I've gotten a few "I don't listen to red trolls" thrown at me from various "important" people lately, so...

Sorry.

Anyway, the Access has (at first glance) all the same chips as the A1200, which specific support chips do you mean?

The demos I've had bad luck with are the TBL (The Black Lotus?) ones from Aminet.
More or less gave up when I found out I have a CD full of downloads that won't play.

Also, is it my joystick, my cable, Team17 or the Access that makes down == right (or was it left)?
Killed me off a couple of times when playing superfrog, that...

Btw, AROS people have called me an idiot for sticking with the AmigaOne as well, so...

I suspect timings are different...

Actually........

I think I had my share of that experience myself.  When I said that I liked AmigaONE better, they started to flip out on me and saying 'MorphOS is much better this n that, blah blah blah.' So..... Im with him on that.
