LSD Grapevine revived!
« on: April 03, 2004, 02:26:21 PM »
Remember diskmags?
Well if you were part of the scene (or even just followed it) back in the early nineties, you will remember that THE Amiga diskmag was Grapevine, by the group LSD. Grapevine featured music, graphics and an ever swelling collection of articles, from coding to wrestling, from fiction to physics, contributed by members of many of the big coding/cracking groups of the day. By the end,  GV was being distributed on 3 disks, and it would take more than a couple of hours to read every article.

After many delays, the first NEW issue in years has finally gone live (its now viewable online rather than distributed by PD libraries, BBS and mail traders!). Check out Ellesdee.org, in order to view the first issue and find out more about the new magazine. It is also possible to download the old GVs as .rar files

That is bloody bizarre actually - I've been using standard Mozilla lately (as opposed to Firebird which I used before), and it is quite strange to be called a 'gobshite' for not using Internet Explorer. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Netscape completely pioneer internet browsers?
I don't use IE - not because I'm a 'gobshite' but because - no popups and tabbed browsing (I have 6 - 12 windows open at a time when I surf the net - its just the way my mind works)

@nOw2
Where is the bit by Pazza?
I had to paste the link into IE before I could read it, cos I was being a gobshite and using Mozilla...

That's quite funny.  I remember ages ago when I was asked to do a "corporate site" which condemned the use of Internet Explorer and encouraged the use of anything but.  The page looked something like this:

"I find your lack of browser abilities, disturbing.  Check out the features on these other browsers or click >here< to continue using the piece of trash you have for a brower."

It was quite funny the type of response seen.  The type of page hits we saw from that, only 3-4% used IE at all, the others used a very broad mixture of browsers (everything from the odball Linux binary only to even iProbe on the Amiga).  It gave me a whole new look on the internet without IE in the picture.

This is the most retarded thing ever... :roll:

Hmm, Pazza and Shagratt. The old Grapevine thing was so exciting when I heard about it. It was 1998 by then and everyone had pretty much moved on, but cool, like looking back on old punk bands.

Did I ever tell you guys how much the Amiga scene reminds me of the hardcore punk scene?

I personally find the whole anti anything none MSIE rather strange. Considering it is supposed to be a re-release of a classic scene zine and many current and ex-amiga users who would be likely to read it would most likely be using a browser besides IE (from the link I read, he has setup 'grapevine' to allow them but the rest of his site does reject them (?)). Be this because they are not using Windows or because they prefer to use a different browser for a number of reasons.
