Default DISKDOCTOR

Hi all, I'm a newbie here. I have an Amiga500 that I used in the past for music sequencing (using Music-X). I'm trying to salvage my old files before the media and / or the Amiga finally bites the dust. I've had good luck on several of the diskettes, but I have a couple that I can't load no matter what. Sometimes, I get the message "Disk structure corrupt. Use DISKDOCTOR to correct it." I can't seem to find this utility on my workbench disks, and I can't find my original manual.

Can anyone tell me where I could find the DISKDOCTOR utility, or do you have any other suggestions for salvaging files on old, faulty media.

Many thanks for any help!

You could try DiskSalv from the Aminet. It's what most people use these days. I assume it will run on the A500 (anyone?)

Cheers,

DiskSalv may be a better option, but how and where that can be
obtained for OS1.x is beyound my knowledge.

The Demise of the DiskDoctor:

The story I was told goes something like this. The software folks were not quite sure whether DiskDoctor should be dumped or improved, so they decided to leave it up to DiskDoctor itself. They put the DiskDoctor source on an old floppy, then ran DiskDoctor on it. As often happened, DiskDoctor damaged this undamaged disk. So, while it's often said that DiskDoctor was "sued for malpractice", it's more correct to state that DiskDoctor committed suicide.

The best for Kickstart 1.1 - 1.3 IMHO is fixdisk. It will let you to read the defektive track as many times as yopu like and you can store the good parts of the track and inly read the bad parts again till all show up as ok. (And it finds also deleted file :-D :-D )

Actually, I managed to rescue some diskettes using diskdoctor on my
A500 when other tools (FixDisk) failed.

Hmm.. this reminds me of small stupid accident in my old A500 days
when I was young and not so well experienced... I was demonstrating
power of FixDisk for my friend and quick formatted my Workbench disk.

"Hey look, I can format this disk and restore its contents. Arent that
cool???"

But when I was using FixDisk I was not really familiar with it yet and
could not restore my WB disk when my friend was watching... So
embarrassing :-)

(Later on I discovered "write enable" was not checked... this enables
restore, but when I was kid my english was not too good
for that )

I've got Music X here if you need it and very early versions of Disksalv and FixDisk for OS 1.x can be found
here.

Can you send me a copy of Disk Doctor to
mail@amigarealm.com

I think DISKDOCTOR is okay as long as you know what you are doing with it. It depends on the formatting of the disk you see.
