Download AMOS Now! (15th July '02)
« on: July 18, 2002, 07:59:55 AM »
For those who are using an Amiga emulator, ADFs of the original AMOS disks for virtually all versions of Easy AMOS, AMOS the creator, AMOS Professional, AMOS 3D, and the AMOS Compilers have been released for free. They can be downloaded from the wonderful Back 2 the Roots web site in the /Tools/Dev/ directory. Use these disk images to continue using AMOS on your favorite emulator or to backup your currupt AMOS system disks!

Yeah, thats just what we need, more AMOS programs refusing to run under RTG, with poor support for modern Amigas.

AMOS' time has passed. It was a very nice syhstem for beginners to write games with, but it belongs in the past. Sure, a new AMOS written from scratch that encompassed all that is good about modern Amigas would be fantastic, but I really think the "old" AMOS should be left to die.

I disagree. You cannot kill something so wonderfull. :-)

But serious, the new Amos path will succeed. Trust me.

Wonderful? It was quite a nice game-orientated BASIC. It was a case of the right idea introduced at the right time.

"new Amos path"? Continuing development on AMOS is a bad idea. A new game-orientated BASIC written from scratch would be a much better idea, and probably easier to do that bring Amos up to date.

Quite surprising :) Good luck anyway.

AMOSPro was a wonderful package (documentation was excellent and i keep it preciously) ; we know that AMOS didn't respect the system integrity, from 1.3 to 3.x and its use consequently limited (SASC  with MUI is better, it's not a news). Nevertheless the idea of renewing this historical piece of software is good. Amos users got "recently" the AGA extension, then all is possible.... :)

Hey! I didn't realize that but it's true! I have ALL the DOCS! :-D

I wonder if the CRAFT add-on is PD cause if it is I might send it to the Mattathias guys. It adds ALOT of commands to AMOS.

Hey Tickly, don't forget that Blitz Basic 2 is updated on a regular basis! :-)

Just a side note... The AMOS collection was already available on Back 2 Roots for at least 2 years. In 2000 I was doing a manga slideshow for my scene group. I was using AmosPro but I didn't have the compiler disk. After much hunting on Internet I found it on B2R and so I could finish the work.

Cheers

Which is great, but as an experienced assembler and C coder, of no real interest to me :)
I do think that the Amiga needs an up-to-date BASIC compiler for beginners though. Blitz Basic was horrible, imho :)
