SysOpt.com notices the AmigaOne(SE) and AmigaOS 4
« on: April 07, 2002, 04:28:48 AM »
It seems that more and more people are starting to hear about the AmigaOne SE and AmigaOS 4.

I know this is a few days old now, so apologies if you've already seen it, but I didn't have access to a computer for a while, otherwise I would have told you all about it sooner. :)

I couldn't agree more. The more exposure, paid advertising or word of mouth, the new Amiga gets the better it will be for us in the long run.

The more exposure the better. The last few weeks I am explaining to a lot of people that Amiga is still alive. But once the new stuff is there they can see it run and go wild. :-)

... i like this, it's mentioned everywhere. even the biggest german computer related news sites mentioned the a1.

the result was a "comment-battle" between amigans and pc-people (who still don't understand anything)

Hi shIva,

I know what you mean with the battle. Those PC freaks have their answer ready right away. Like, Amiga is nothing. And the all time favourite.. but what can you do with it??

Idiots!

Nothing really. I typically avoid these arguements. When Amiga creeps closer to mainstream these folks may think different(though doubtful)

Sometimes I talk about the demonstration  to PC freaks that Bill gave about AmigaAnywhere. Then they go like, so? But if Microsoft comes with something then they go OHHH YOU NEVER BELIEVE WHAT THEY HAVE KNOW!

Amazing!

Stop preaching to the cattle... They won't understand a word you say...
You just need a cattle prod, that's all.

I don't intend to replicate the same argument here - I'm an Amigan by conviction - but the 'what does it do' argument is pretty fair. We don't have the software yet. The release of the A1/OS4 is only the first step. The next battle will be to get software companies used to massive sales to port leading software to the new patform. Good development on the OS and H/W is one thing but there will need to be a solid developer program with some aggressive marketing (to developers) if we're going to see a good take up in the early period after the retail units are available.

Please don't get me wrong - there's plenty of promising titles available for AmigaOS but many of them will require major updates to take advantage of the new system and the resources to do this are gonna be tough to come by. I'm not gonna rain on AInc./Hyperion/Eyetech's colective parade but there's a long way still to go.

I for one am looking forward to watching it unfold :)
