AROS Feature Request Page Added

I've added a Feature Request page on my site: Matt's AROS website (www.ahsodit.com/aros/index.html)
My new page allows users to vote for the feature they most want to see in AROS as soon as possible. This will allow the dev team to focus on what you, the users, actually want!!



Note, this new page is a bit of an experiment and might suffer from lots of problems.

Even if you don't care about AROS, please take some time to vote.

I just want to highlight a comment by Fabio:

To develop a basic workbench at this time !!!WILL!!! slow development of low level things like drivers and stuff.

But this is to test the AROS community priorities, and see what they feel is important.

I dont know about features i would requiest. But as far as functionality goes, i would recomend they put all their skills behind getting AROS ready for Native Compilation and stableisation of a native-standalone-x86 OS!!!

That is, i dont think we can get a standalone x86 binary for it, besides the floppies!!

The closest you get to a full distro is the KDE snapshot, right? - That just isnt good enough.

Infact now i have thought of some stuff they could do :) - provide a Birdie type thing and Magic Menu type and integrate that into AROS/intuition! :)

But yer, Kernel + prepackaged utils would be nice. Plus an easy install!

Just wanted to say i voted for WorkBench!

However, i voted for workbench not because it makes AROS more usable (well part of that :)) - but i think it would be most benifitial.

That is, a workbench will lueur users. ATM you got dos on a disk, which isnt really interesting. When we have ta GUI to play with, Sorry, workbench, it will possibly attract users and hopfuly developers. More developers is always cool :).

On the poll page they mention improving workbench will be done later. I hope they work on something similar to AmigaOS. That is integrate a magic menu and birdie type system into it intuition (or whatever GUI library they use)!!!

Would be so purdy... But the point is, Workbench will make it look like a more complete OS!! - which will luerer people looking for that alternate OS.

Also, there needs to be an easy way to install AROS on you x86 HDD!!!

I seriously doubt that but if Amiga inc does something so foolish im confident the Aros dudes will remove/change whatever it is they can claim is ilegall with Aros.

IT would like to point out that we use a near perfect intuition clone for our GUI (and we have ZUNE a MUI Clone as a GUI manager).

Magic Menu would be pointless as our menus already have Magic menu features (have you not tried AROS?!?!?). Run Multiview and press the right mouse button!!!!

Don't panic, I'm working on a simple harddrive installer now. I just have to wait for "Basti" to finish getting harddrive support perfect.
I do actually have a computer setup with AROS on it's hard drive as the machines' only OS, here right now. It does work but still needs to be tweeked.

We have an Assembler which can be used to develop software within AROS right now!! all that is needed is to stick a C compiler on it and we will have a C development system. This may take some time though... :-)

The Amithlon situation cannot happen to us, we have NO source code from AmigaOS in our system, every thing has been coded from scratch to work the same way as AmigaOS. :-)

By the way, if you want a full x86 native distro (ie not the current floppy one), then why not download the CD iso version?

But agreed that without the finished Nvidia drivers it's not very useful, but it is fun to play with.

Hmmm...... Morphos, AmigaOS, Aros....... I wonder. Aros has been bubbling along relativly quietly, doing stuff... - not flaming up like the MOS community.

Without AROS both AOS4 and MOS would not have been possible. At least not within the time frame in which they are currently developing.

Both projects use/will use AROS code.

AROS code is free and open source.

AOS4/ MOS use bits from AROS? Are you sure? If thats true, it would be nice to see DE run on AROS, since concievably you could then write a lot of the OS over in DE for it. Binary Compatible OS...never thought it would be coming.

Amiga-De only runs (at this time) on WINDOWS.
Everyone with a brain knows that it is a mess.
(the linux version is for rh6.2, you know that the kernel changed several times from that one ?)

AROS, morphos (by extention) are the Royal Way.
AROS with its Hardware Layer System.
MorphOS with its ROM-modules.

Yeah ! Keep on' AROS, keep on' MorphOS
