I would presume it would be easy enough to add another style here for users to choose ...

Something for the powers that be to consider later when all the old A.Org is finally ported over perhaps?

On a personal note ...

I thought the AMIGA font was Garamond? There was an image in the old gallery that identified it, and another for the Commodore logo. Can't remember who posted it.

My vote's for that one, whatever it is.

If Topaz is victorious, may I suggest the 1.3-era version?

I ran a site a long while back and I wrote a widget that would randomly display one of ten images for the site logo. Maybe that is a possibility... or maybe a skin setting for users so that they could choose what they like... or we just let Wayne do whatever he likes seeing how it is his site.

I agree the original Amiga.org font was nice and would preserve the history of the board.

Default blocky beta

Some of the creators (?) discussed a scanline-effect.

I think topaz looks best in the sizes it was intended for, i.e small.
However, a scanline effect could help break off those, ahem, blocks.
I'll just have to take their word for it that it could have looked better.
Sure, it's retro, but is it cool?
I'd prefer a large smooth font anytime over enlarged 8x8 fonts.
Be it Garamond or whichever...
Now I'll vote and shut-it

To all the topaz haters, think about this.

You have the letter A in the logo (in a smooth font)
You have the Boing Ball in the logo
You have the Amiga check mark in the logo
You have the red diamond in the logo
You have the rest of the site in a normal smooth font
why can't we have a bit of topaz in there for a bit of a nostalgia trip?
Its artistic
How does that denigrate the Amiga?

The argument put forward by some that it will make people think their beloved Amigas cannot display smooth fonts is ridiculous. Who outside of the community gives a damn about whether the Amiga is able to manage smooth fonts or not. Like anyone cares.

Think artistically don't get all emotional about the Amiga over a simple logo. This is a website not the Amiga operating system.

Go Topaz Go topaz Go! Don't upset the system.

I wonder what the following compromise would look like: Having the word "AMIGA" in the Garamond font and the .org in topaz 8

It doesn't really seem terribly important in the grand scheme of things, but I do prefer the topaz logo.

If I could choose, the layout and design of the new amiga.org should be as similar as possible to the old one.

I realize of course that some of you will NEVER be happy until this site looks identical to the antiquated version of what it was.

Frankly and honestly, as a web GUI guy, after the first seven years or so, I got extremely tired of looking at it, as it looked like something built and created nearly a decade ago (which it was).

The new header will change and mutate, but -- with respect to those who can't get past it -- it won't ever be what it was.

There is a reason people tear down 1970's floral wallpaper from their kitchen, and the fact that our "active users" (those people who've logged in in the last 30 days) went up 100+ people in the last week speaks volumes to me.

Change is good. Sometimes difficult, but good as it keeps people interested.

Wayne
