Hi there,
I just plugged in my A1200 and I get no display (connecting via the composite connector). It vagually looks like something might be trying to display in a verticall rolling band of static thats only an inch wide. The machine seems to boot ok, as I here the disk munching away and the startup soundfx plays fine. What should I look at ? And pointers ? Thanks! Mark |

Hold the two mouse buttons down before booting up and see if you get the early startup screen then choose boot with no start-up. you'll then boot into a shell. type wbload. minimize the shell. you'll then have booted into workbench in a 4 color screen. highres screen mode, it You may have a non-video mode set in screenmode prefs, so go to prefs/screenmode and select pal or ntsc.

Tried that already.
I also stripped the machine down to just a motherboard on a table and get the same thing :-( |

I have a very similar problem. On an old tv, I just get a very red rolling picture, new tv's can't pick the signal up at all.
It's been like this since around '93 and attempts were made to repair it at that time. In the end, the only way I could get it to work on a TV was with a modulator from an A500 - even a scart cable wouldn't work. I suppose the modulators can be picked up quite cheaply. Now I use an Indivision AGA on a LCD monitor. |

With composite, you mean the 'yellow' connector ? If yes, you need a matching composite monitor. Notice that composite also means: monochrome. Which is basically a one color output (green).
If no and you want to use the 'brown' rf modulator connector and wanna use it on a tv, you need something like this piece of hardware and matching cables to get it working. x303 :-D :-D :-D |

Ummmm .. noooo .. composite does not mean "monochrome" or "green".
This Wikipedia article explains it far better that I can : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Composite_video And the A1200 has an RF modulator built in .. it's between the composite connector and the power connector. Thanks for the reply though :-) Mark |

I would be interested if you ever find a fix for this as it is the entire composite output that is broken on mine, ie the RF out, the composite out and RGB port to SCART.
The A520 modulator was the only way to get mine working as it sounds like it is using the RGB output. RGB to VGA was also fine for workbench, but sadly not for games. |
