A2000 On its side?
« on: April 17, 2009, 07:04:43 PM »
Does it hurt the Amiga 2000 to operate it on its side?  I rather have it on its side for space issues on my desk than on the floor or under a very heavy old CRT!

Thanks,
Mike Valverde

;-) The A2000 is built like a tank.  It was meant to sit below the monitor, so there are no worries there.  Also, that arrangement allows the two to share the same footprint on the desk, and thus to use less space between them.

Still, if you want to put it on its side, there should be no trouble.  I wouldn't recommend it, though; the case wasn't designed that way.  Your ports on the left would have to go up top, and thus your floppy drives or the right would be next to the floor, collecting more dust.  That's not a good idea.

I agree the 2000 is solidly built and can support quite a hefty monitor. However. I'll add that there are no ports on the left of the 2000 case like there are on the 4000.

I don't see any issue with putting her on her side except I would not put a harddisk on a controller card.

Just look at the Bomac Tower conversion kit. It actually bolts the A2000 inside -ON ITS Side! There should really be no issues other than the aforementioned hard drive issue. mount the drives (if possible) on the Power supply sled
