Default Heatsink Recommendations for A3000D

Greetings all,

Couldn't sleep so I decided it was time to crack open my A3000 and install DJBase's A3000D SIMM adapter that I received in December of last year. I must say it works a treat and my A3000 now has 16MB of FastRAM 8-)

Since I've got it open, I thought I'd also try and solve the little overheating problem I have with it. I'm 99% sure its the CPU that's overheating, however it probably wouldn't hurt to install heat sinks on all the chips, anyone have any recommendations on what heat sinks I could use?

Cheers,

Adz :-)

I found that the chips on the left front (under the leds) of the motherboard get hotter than I expected.

Normally the warmer chips inside the case CPU (hands down, even with an accelerator plugged in!), followed by RAM controller (Agnus/Alice), then video (Denise/Lisa) and finally CIAs.

On A3000 the Amber is a quite hot girl...

They look like they are made from plastic.

Interested to see how well they cool things as I'd like one for my 060.

Nope, solid aluminum. I just measured one up against an 040 and you'd need four of these to cover it. Why not grab an old 486 cooler and attach it with some thermal adhesive? I've got a few I could part with.

Yup, Amber was one of the lucky chips to get a shiny new heat sink. In the end, I only attached heat sinks to Amber, the 030 and the 882. I also installed a 92mm fan where the expansion ports reside (no extra board in this baby), so far so good :-D

I believe that overheating problems may be due to the old PALs. You can get GAL replacements.
