Default Sending packages >2kg abroad from the UK

I have a couple of items on eBay at the moment and they are quite heavy. I have been getting international shipping quotes and the prices are just ridiculous. Royal Mail have told me that they no longer ship items heavier than 2kg and that I will have to use Parcel Force, but they have just quoted me nearly £40 for a 3kg package! There must be a better way. Anyone know of a better service I can use?

might get a cheaper quote from http://www.interparcel.com/

a 3kg package cost me £42 recently (was quoted 3 days with tracking but parcel did get stuck at customs), but that was to Brazil. parcelforce quoted me £50 for 30 day without tracking

Yes, I used them to get heavy motorcycle engine parts to the USA earlier in the year. Much cheaper than I could get it normally :-D

Thanks for the tip buzz. Interparcel quoted £29 to ship the 3kg package to Norway, which is a bit more like it. However, I am also looking for quotes to send a Power Tower to Argentina, and the prices are sky high, even with Interparcel (though they were a little bit cheaper).

Royal Mail only send up to 2kg so to force you pay loads of money through their courier service (Parcel Force).

{bleep}s.

I really don't know why UK Post is so expensive.
To send an A1200 to Italy I had to pay 70 GBP that are 100 EUR! This is a great "barrier". UK is in Europe and seems to be much more far away!

@Daniele

If you buy an A1200 from us, you pay around 25 EURO to Italy

@Motorollin
Unfortunately, there are not many good shipping deals unless you ship bulk (and have a shipping account). We use DPD network (Interlink Express) and FedEx. Sometimes, if the package can be split, it may be cheaper to send items in multiple packages (each under 2kg) by Royal Mail.

Yes I know that your price are nice! Infact I have made nice customs from you. Bought a motherboard and an heavy case no problem. And in the future want to buy another A1200 but need to know if it is Commodore or Escom and what Packaging I would receive... brand new Magic Pack or What? ... CHEERS!!!

erm...i guess you are talking about me maybe??
:-D

Im desperate to buy a Power Tower, even if you send it by sea (cheapest and slowest method available AFAIK)

Im used to wait long times to get Amiga gears...

Believe me, living in this part of the world AND being an Amiga user is not as good combination!!!

:-D

Plus....damn customs...they try to take money from you all the time, asking you to pay 50% of what you originally paid in "taxes" invented by them...so i always beg my ebay sellers to declare that there is a gift or a non working old computer part and/ non commercial value item and/or that i paid 5 pounds so they wouldnt even bother to open the package..

BUT...if they open the package and they found the original PayPal invoice saying i paid XXXX times more...im dead!!!!
:-D

Cheers Moto for making all the effort! Really appreciatted!!!

When I contacted Royal Mail and Parcel Force I told them very clearly that you don't care how long it takes, but the prices they gave me are the only options available :-(

I really object to customs charging import tax on old stuff like this. If you can't buy it new from a retailer and pay tax, then you shouldn't have to pay tax to import it. Also, private sales are exempt from VAT (at least in the UK), so private sales which are imported should be also :roll:

That's why I didn't include any paperwork at all in the last package I sent you ;-)
