An interesting find on the CDTV Remote
« on: November 25, 2008, 06:38:20 PM »
Ok, So You all know I got my CDTV last month, and I ordered a NOS CDTV remote from RED (Thanx RED! :-D ) for it.
I just got it in this morning(along with all my other goddies from RED (he is like Santa!) and I noticed that this one was different from my original.
I checked CDTV.org and did a quick google search and I could not find any info on different remotes made for it.
The difference is small, the power button is swapped with the mouse/joy button, and on the second, the mouse/joy button is a switch, not a button.
the back sticker shows the first (with buttons) as model number 252594-01
the second logically has
252594-02

Not sure if anyone cares or if this has been documented before, but I though it was interesting.

I noticed the part number difference and thought it was odd. Good catch on the button swap! I didn't see that.
Someone has to state the obvious and that someone is me!

Interesting observation, I think both my controllers are the -02 type with the mouse-joy switch instead of button.  I noticed that you have not removed the clear tape from the infrared lens on the front of your new remote.

Off topic, can anyone remember the name of the member who was trying to sell his CDTV that had many extras added including a modified case because he had added an 030/50MHz Derringer accelerator w/32mb RAM?

I am thinking of replicating that machine as I have all the parts, but I want to ask him some questions (even if he has already been successful in selling it).

Thanks

EDIT: Never mind I found the thread.
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

I also have one of each type of controller, completely by accident ;-)  and was noticing the difference the other day.

My kids love the old school games I have for it, and I love that old school games are typically rated 'G' as opposed to all the bloody ego shooters out there today for the new consoles :-/  Yes, they're fun.  For grownups, not seven year olds!

I didn't get that far yet when I scanned the pictures- I had just basically pulled it out of the plastic, didn't even through batteries in yet. :lol:

Well, I got mine some months ago.

@amigakit

Then start to wish for the controllers to break down, so people will place their orders again. :lol:

@amigakit

Eyetech used to sell an infrared kit to use the CDTV controller with any amiga.  I think it used the joystick port.  Do you know anything about this or maybe purchased this with the rest of the Eyetech stock?

The Infrared Amiga adapter was called EZLink.

It can be found here on our webstore:

Hope this helps.

Hey there Matthew/AmigaKit,

Can you please give some more detail on that product?

Does it allow you to use the CDTV controller as both remote joystick & mouse on a regular Amiga?  :-o
