Well if someone can build a Amiga Clone system ala MiniMig. Then why doesn't someone take the time to clone the A1200 PPC boards that were put out by Phase5 / DCE. I have had and A1200 since the late 90's after the PPC had pretty much dried up or were priced way too high. It can't be that hard to have someone build a board and have a company populate them. Heck have them done by the same group that is making the MiniMig. Now don't say "what the use its old hardware..." Hey look at the new A1000 motherboard responses. All of us have Amiga hardware. If there was no real interest in hardware for our systems then we should have sent them to the dumpster long ago. So here is my suggestion(s).

New Cloned A1200 PPC Boards - Same design or redesigned.
Cloned PPC Board for the Blizzard 2060 Board for A2000's - This is a small board.

This will encourage people to purchase new hardware and also Amiga OS 4.0 for classic systems. Thus allowing the design companies to develop revenue to build new hardware and software.

Just from my experiences: nice for testing, nice for doing some peek / poke stuff, and nice for doing some basic tests with modules arriving from the assembly line (power switch with overcurrent protection).
But a real defined timing is not possible, and interrupt handling would be a mess - so I doubt such an attempt will really give you a working USB solution.
That's why I mentioned the microcontroller in the middle. I was hoping it could act as a synchronized buffer.

I have an even easier idea: hook a Microchip ENC28J60 to the clockport. This is an SPI Ethernet, shoud be really easy to do... (lunchtime fun)
Naahh. No thanks.. I don't want a "clock port"...

And I DO want exisiting drivers to work with the device, "no questions asked.."

In fact, my A500 is pretty full as far as internal expansions go.. and I hate UGLY external expansions.. Hence my decision to build the board for the 100 pin expansion port INSIDE the hardisk sidecar.

Not looking to "re-invent the wheel" here.. Just gonna use an already supported chip that has proven to work well, at a decent speed, and make an A500 solution for those who are serious enough to get a decent external hardisk controller.

Those "all in one" solutions are really nice, dont get me wrong. Theres quite a few more companies besides Microchip that have comparable products. And if I was designing a system from scratch, I'd use them.

Old Z3 cards would catch fire if you hooked them to a bus driven by a 3ghz CPU! :-D

How about something like the AmiJoe card, but more modern with some sort of all-in-one PPC chip like the SAM440 has and a built in Radeon Mobility chip for graphics? This would all fit inside the desktop A1200 and really rock! Add Jen's Indivision FF and you'd have a OS4.1 machine with access to the AA chips displaying on a modern LCD monitor.

Actually, isn't this what Adam Kowalczyk proposed? Hmmmm.... :-D

Ok, something I've been thinking for a while, and I'm sure I'm not the only one ...

A big plate that mounts on the A500 mobo, which taps certain chips&connectors. or it can be a smaller board mounted on the floppy slot and tap the chips by small adapter boards and cables. But it would be messier.

First function is floppy emulator. Store adf files on SD, read/write support. Connects to internal floppy port. optional df1 emulation.

Tap the keyboard connector (a small adapter which will fit between mobo keyboard connector and keyboard plug). Function : listen to keyboard strokes and use floppy emulator by original amiga keyboard. Optional function : PS/2 keyboard port for external keyboard connection.

Tap the Denise : Overlay floppy emulator control to original amiga screens. Optional function : Scandoubler/Flickerfixer

Tap 68k : for IDE (by the finnish guy, sorry) or 8mb Fast Ram (Lord Vedo ? Russian guy) or even a FPGA emulated softcore 68k for a 2x or 4x turbo mode (by Tobias Gubener ?) Optional : Clockports, but Jens didn't open source clockport module GALs I think.

Optionally CIAs or something else could be tapped for PS/2 compatible mouse port.

Yes, this would be helluva complex thing, but most of the stuff is already done, just somebody needs to put them together.

how about a small Z3 card that is just a memory controller (FPGA?) and a DDR1 dimm socket? IIRC you can auto configure 512Mb per slot? or is it more?
DDR dimms are chicken feed thesedays...

4Mbyte CD32 FastRAM expansion

IDE68k with CF card slot, 44-pin IDE connector & 8Mbyte RAM expansion for CDTV & A500(+)

Kickflash A1200D (preferably compatible with elbox FastATA MKIII)

Mitsumi->IDE adapter (to allow you to use modern slot/tray loading CD-ROM drives with CDTV)

Zorro III gfx card with integrated scandoubler similar to PicassoIV but with more VRAM to support the newer LCD monitors which have a native panel resolutions of 1900x1200

Sure that sounds even better, but OS4 isn't coded for multi-core so I was just trying to "keep it real". (In a fantasy thread.... riiiight :-P )

Yup '68 Javelin. I had one like that and sold it in 1984. :-( Now I'm looking for another one to restore. If I find one, I'll use it in my avatar as the restore progresses.

on the CD32 idea, how about a CD32 to A1200 CPU slot adapter? from what i can figure, it could be completely passive...?

How about a "plug into the CPU socket" expander for owners of Zorro II accelerators. (Especially GVP) It would be great to use some of those cheap peecee SIMMs. Use an FPGA as memory controller, and add other features like a graphics system, maybe upgraded sound...

An I/O subsystem. Use a microcontroller to interface the Zorro bus to SPI. There are USB and Networking modules with their own CPUs to handle the TCP/IP and USB stacks. There's even one with an MP3 player.

I would like Natami 060 with PPC card for it, situated in amiga 1200 like desktop case or in amiga 4000 like desktop case. I don't want any more PC cases...

And built in floppy emulator (like Hxc standalone) so we can load old adf games from SD card.

And built in network support...

Man, I would like that kind of new amiga.......

I made one. Not completely passive as there are some missing signals on CD32 edge connector. Bit of a pain having a turbo card hanging out the back of your CD32.
