Back when I had my 500 and it was still new (when dinosaurs roamed the earth), I used to unplug my printer cable with the power on so I could plug in my DSS. I never had any troubles doing this, but I've since learned that the amiga is sensitive to this sort of thing.

Not very healthy, I must say! Amiga mice with a metal "shield" (like the old original ones) cannot be unplugged since you can short the shield with a live pin and good-bye even CIA.
Also serial/parallel/video ports are sensitive. You can always unplug something
if that thing is turned off.

So here's my question. What constitutes unplugging? I have my 2000 attached to a 23-pin to 15-pin vga cable, which then connects to a 15-pin vga to component bnc cable, which then plugs into the back of a monitor.

Live wires are sensitive. Specially when a load is attached. I burned an A1200's video RGB bumping on the cable while the Amiga is running, once. :boohoo:

What part of this can I unplug with the power on? Unplugging the 23-pin cable from the back of the 2000 feels dangerous. But can I unplug other parts in the chain? Can I unplug one or more bnc connectors from the back of the monitor? Can I push buttons on the monitor to select a different input source without turning off the 2000?

As I said b4, any part who can be turned off before disconnecting is OK.

And what about switch boxes? I have a 1 to 4 way switch box that switches three rca cables at once. What if I convert the BNC connectors to rca and switch them with that?

That's OK, since it behaves like a KVM.
