is there anyway to create a 2nd new small partition using HDToolbox without erasing my info on my main partition :-? I feel like an idiot not creating 2 partitions when I originally installed my drive..been doing it that way since the 80's :roll:

I think when you delete/modify a partion, all other partions in the chain are deleted. For example you can delete/modify DH3 without effecting DH0, 1 or 2 but you'll kill DH4.

This is for partitions that exist on the same physical drive.

that may be the case with hdinsttools, but IIRC I managed to do it with hdtoolbox.
(still I prefer hdinsttools for everything else)

it would seem that he has only one partition, so no software can help him, restoring from backup is a must.

I say an idea because I know it AmigaSYS to a trial want other partition.

1, create new folder your DH0: partition, name ex.: AmigaSYS.
2, unpack AmigaSYS into DH0:AmigaSYS/
3, reset Amiga and push two button mouse button (Amiga Early startup), select boot with no startup...
4, type: DH0:AmigaSYS/c/Fm3.0
5, Create new folder with DH0:OldSystem or move your old system files into OldSystem/.
6, Open AmigaSYS/ and move AmigaSYS files into DH0 root.
7, rename your DH0 name to new: (SYSTEM).
8, RESET

DH0 may be something else at you, if yes write it.
ex:
DH0:AmigaSYS/c/Fm3.0
SDH0:AmigaSYS/c/Fm3.0
QDH0:AmigaSYS/c/Fm3.0

etc...

i'm sure you can backup your disk's RDB incase everything goes south.
but if you are adding or modifying another partition without touching DH0, then you should be ok?

In my experience the answer is simply "No" :-( If your hard drive is divided into one large partition, you cannot divide it up again without losing all your data. I think you'll have to backup your data to another hard drive, CD-R, Zip disk, Jaz disk or Compact Flash card etc, and then start again with dividing and formatting your hard drive.

thanks for the info guys...was in a bit of a panic late last night when I posted..(lack of sleep can do that to you ;-) )
anyhow it shouldnt be a problem backing up all my stuff onto my 1 GB CF card, re-partitioning the hd and playing from there :-D

dont have AmigaSYS up yet..thats why I need to create that small partition so that I can install the lha onto my hd :-D hopefully will have more time this weekend to mess with it....

Well, it's possible to first ReOrg the partition so the files are at the beginning of it, then format it quick, do the new partitions so that the first one is bigger than the sum of the files that got quick formatted and then boot from some other medium that has an undelete program to undelete the files from the first partition - probably DiskSalv could do it in Repair mode. But a backup is a much better bet.

What about something like Partition Magic or Gparted on a PC?

I haven't tried it, so if you go this route backup your drive first. I'm not sure either of these apps were writted with amiga partitions in mind.
