Default Dynamic IP support.

Fellows,

I just got my cable modem in today, and would like to setup my 1200 for network access. As I've already done some research on tcp/ip stacks, I noticed that AmiTCP seems having trouble using a DHCP assigned address. However, I found Genesis on my (legal) OS3.9 cdrom, which should be able to use DHCP according to the docs. How?? Non of the icons I click responds.. Is there a special way?
I did use Miami before with a dial-up, but I don't feel like paying bucks for a TCP/IP stack, when my A1 will arrive soon (I hope)..
Any advice on how to enable my miggy on the net would be appreciated. (I already do have a supported NE2K PCMCIA nic...)

The only way I've been able to successfully connect Genesis to a network through DHCP is to use a router that connects to the internet and then connect Genesis to the router since the router will have a static IP address on the local network. There may be another way, but I haven't been able to find it.

Without Boingbag1 you need MUI to start the GenesisPrefs program. In addition GenesisPrefs needs some custom MUI classes. They are contained in the GenesisDemo archive on Aminet.

Some time ago I've extracted them from the archive and uploaded them seperately: http://home.t-online.de/home/thomas-rapp/download/Genesis_Mui.lha

Get Boingbag1 from http://os.amiga.com/3.9/download/

Bye,
Thomas

Yeah, that's what I was afaid of... But when using a static one there's no need for Genesis right??? AmiTCP would be able to handle this without genesis ??

I once connected my Miggy direct to a Cablemodem
with dynamic IP (DHCP) with MiamiDX this is no Problem... with Genesis I also think that you must use a router or a proxy...

I've never liked the configuration options of Genesis or AmiTCP, you might want to take a second look at Thomas' post... It might work for your needs.
