Default Help me decide which Amiga to keep!!!

Hello All,

So the situation is that I have two machines, and one of them is going to go on Ebay. So I want to beef the one I keep up as much as possible and sell the other one. However, I'd love some advice as to what to do! Here are the machines:

A2000HD
1 MB Chip
3.1 ROMs
A2620 Board with 020@14mhz and 4 MB RAM
GVP A2000HC+8 SCSI Board with 4 MB RAM
12x CD ROM
2 Floppies
52 MB SCSI Hard Drive
A2320 Amber card

A3000D
2 MB Chip
2.04 ROMs
030 Processor
4 MB Fast
52 MB SCSI Drive
1 Floppy

1 Picasso II 2MB card which I have not installed in either machine yet, will go in the keeper.

So, they both have a flicker fixer/scandoubler. I think I can take RAM from at least one of the expansion boards in 2000 and put it in the 3000. I'm leaning towards the 3000 at the moment, because I've always wanted one and it is smaller than the 2000, plus it has the 030.

The 2000 has 3.1 Roms though which is a plus for the Picasso I'm told.

I was thinking of keeping the 3000 and buying 3.1 Roms, I'd love more RAM though but don't want to cripple the 2000. The 2000 has a CD-ROM too which makes it easy to get files across, I'd need to buy an ethernet card for the 3000.

So, basically, HELP! Give me your opinions and what to do please!?!?

Of course the A3000, but A2000 is nice to have. I bet for both! :-D

I'd have to go with the 3000 there mate. I'd strip the 2000 for all it's worth, and sell it as a stock Amiga on ebay, or wherever you plan to sell it. If you're going to put the Picasso II in whichever one you keep, you definitely want 3.1 ROM(s) in there. It will increase the number of colours Picasso can display.

So you reckon the 2000 would go for more on Ebay if stripped? I was thinking of selling the 2000 as a complete unit so whoever got it had a nice machine...

Sounds like you know about the Picasso II Xamiche....

After seeing what your A1200 got on Ebay, I'll be putting my spare A1200/030 up soon!!!

Yeah, I still can't believe it myself. I was expecting around $200-$250, but I never expected to get $455. I saw one go for $755 the day before mine sold. Madness really. But honestly, I'm not complaining. The A1200 sale just paid the balance of my new Fender Strat, so I'm a happy chappy.
I know the Picasso II quite well. I had one for my A2000HD that I just sold. Since I had no manual I had to figure it out by myself, with a little help from google of course.

What I meant by stripped was to keep the useful parts for yourself. Presuming you keep the 3000 and not the 2000. But I guess there's not much from the 2000 that you'd really need on the 3000, apart from maybe the CD-ROM drive.

I'd love to keep both, I was originally "collecting" but I just don't have the space or time to use them that I'd like, so I will only keep a couple.

I'm keeping an A1200/030, CD32 and it looks like the A3000.

Can I use the RAM from the A2000 cards in the A3000?

If I want to use the SCSI CD ROM from the A2000, do I need to buy some sort of external case for it? I can't fit it in the A3000.

Zorro2 vs Zorro3, what is the question there

I'd try to get accelerator for a3k and put the gfx card in it. Then you can easily expand the memory and get most out of it.

You can't: the A3000 uses zip rams whereas the A2000 uses SIMMS. BUT if you get an accelerator ($$$) for the A3000 then you can. Having said that some phase 5 accelerators need some motherboard mods on the A3000 to work properly, and you may need to update the Buster chip as well for the graphics card and other zorro3 expansions.

People often say the A3000 is the best Amiga ever built, beats me why ( I think the A4000T is) but I'd keep the A3000 over the A2000.

A3000 is a keeper. This one is a no-brainer in my opinion. More processor speed doesn't hurt at all.
