1x blizzard 1260 with 1230scsi
1x western digital scsiII 1gb harddrive 1x ?? 50pin scsiII cdrom 1x passive terminator 1x scsi box with psu and cables Hi i have just bought a external scsi tower from a ebay seller and i must say the product both look great and all.. See HERE. I have searched around internet for scsi guides and information but failed to find anything that gives me a fair clue on how to arrange stuff "most are about ultra uber scsi 3 etc and newer not interesting stuff" ... I plan to have the os on the hardisk in the box and use the cdrom as well ... I have never used scsi before and need a fair bit of guidence.. The hardisk works fine when used together with the cable it came with so i belive all will be good... were to put termination people ? I bought a passive terminator was that wrong ? .. I also bought a cable but it was wrong as it was 50pin and not 25pin .... I also bought a new cable from amigakit but shippments from there seems to take ages lately "packing" ... The scsi box also have selectors for scsi id and i notice there is a 6pin plug that fits the left side of the hardrive "is this correct if i want to select scsi id for the harddrive ?... Thanks people ..

See the manual at the top right. Hopefully it might be of some use :-D Hodgkinson.

ofcource i did all ready read that. And as for most manuals its very usefull "as firewood maybe" but is more detailed about the controller than the scsi chain setup it self and it does not tell anything about what kind of termination needed active or passive terminator...

Ah ha. ;-) Just thought I'd post it anyway.
Agreed, most manuals contain as little info as possible these days. And as for modern products most of it's warranty and disposal info rather than technical specs

On the Blizzard SCSI-IV you only need to terminate the end of the cable (or the last device). Passive termination should work fine. (Disable termination on the drives if you're going to use the external terminator.)
Just make sure every device has a unique ID. Either use the selector they supply, or jumpers. (Selectors are nice because you can change them on the fly, but otherwise server the same function... Some drives use smaller jumpers so you won't be able to use the selector they provide.)

Thank you for your tip anyways . I will wait too the easter is over hopefully my package will be here so that i can fire up the external box, was hoping to know how to controll scsi id and stuff before that .. Also how to speed up bootuptimes with blizkick and scsi load.... When i did run the harddrive it was blazeing fast :-) The setup will be a great whdload and demobox :-)

No problem with that. The pass through is there for when you don't have a free connector to plug a terminator into. You can either plug it into the last connector on the end (like a normal non-pass through terminator). Or, plug it in right before the last device.
Bliz == HD == CD-ROM == Terminator or Bliz == HD == Pass Throug Terminator + CD-ROM Edit: I'm not sure if you got an internal, or external terminator. Since you're using the external box, which presumably has 2 SCSI connectors, an external terminator will be better in the long run. That way you can remove the terminator to add more devices (HD, Scanner, Zip, etc.) without opening the box.

@adonay
With the box you have linked to, you need a cable from DSUB 25 pins to centronics, and a centronics terminator. At least that's what I use on my own similar tower. The SCSI selection part of the tower is optional. If you want to be able to change SCSI ID from the outside, you need to attach the wires that is attached to the switch. If you just want to stick to the SCSI ID your devices already has, you can just leave them as they are, just be sure to not use the same ID on two devices. |

@adolescent
Its a external terminator currently plugged into the last port "2nd" on my scsi box ... Thank you for you answer.. @doctorQ Thank you again for the scsi stuff worked great as it were but trying to make my system more tidy and better looking so decided to go for a scsi box.. I did buy that 25pin to centronics cable "as you call it" after i first made the mistake buying a 50pin to centronics .. the terminator should be centronics as it sits in the scsi box now "on what i think is the last connector... But better still i can use the wronglu bought cable for my pc "only need to buy a scsi II card for it...
