Hi there,
i am testing my new Blizzard 1260 since a few hours ago and i notice that it goes much hoter than Bliz1230iv. It haven't fan or heatsink and i don't want to damage it. Using it in a a1200 desktop... how can i make to sure a long life 060? (mantain the trapdoor open, put a heatsink, elevate the miggy... towerize + fan (i don't like that)... give me your thoughts/experiences

There are different 060 cpus i had one on one of my BPPC cards that would feel as hot as a 040 i diddent use a heatsink on it and it runned for years and i imagine it does still. I gues some cpu revisions are hotter than others... You could chage to a newer better mask and hence get a colder card but i would just slap a heatsink on it as it is the best way to lead away heat anyways ...
You do NOT need a tower on your 060 it will ruin half the feeling .. just find a small heatsink and if needed fan and you will be ok ... You may even cut a hole in the trapdoor and let the heatsink out there ...

is a XC68060RC50 (mask? 01F43G QEDZ9546A).
i like the idea of a heatsink and cut the trapdoor... but i'm thinking to not canibalize the trapdoor and not close it, fixing the cpu card to avoid movement.

With a little fan/heatsink combo, 66 MHz is generally a safe and reliable overclock. edit -- BTW, that is one sweet card you got! ![]() |

I've put a notebook fan inside the 1200 case since when I have a 1230/50.
The SIMM goes hot and so the CPU/FPU, so I've put it near the floppy unit blowing air in the accelerator direction. Also some low-profile heatsink glued over the CPU is a nice idea. But better than anything is swap all electrolytic capacitors around the motherboard. That's a common cause of overheating in desktop Amigas.

And yes... a sweet card!!! i gives me the real amiga feeling  Quote:
i'll look for a heatsink suitable for the 060 and i'll keep the trapdoor open. Another question is about the psu. since now i was using an original a500 psu. it will be sufficient or i'll need another power unit? anyway i'll need a new psu because the old psu begins to fail (sometimes don't want to power on ) :getmad:

If you have instability issues the a500 psu might not be strong enugh "not sure about that though" Dodgy operatinon alway accur when you have a bad powersource .. But then again i had a BPPC running stable on such a psu for a long time while others sayed it could not be done so in my experience it should be ok but that psu is ageing and could be weaker than it used to be...

I forgot to suggest that. There's a horrible gadget to cool laptops. It's like an expansion base, but only has fans. Maybe if you remove the trapdoor an put your Amiga over the thing...

that coupled with an air flow should be plenty for an 060 that isnt overclocked.
