You can't.

(Well, assuming your A1200 has USB and you use some USB switcher, then in theory. It wouldn't work in games etc though)

Yeah the keyrah is basically meant to be used in cases that are left over from tower conversions, etc.. The A1200 keyboard can't be connected to a keyrah and an Amiga at the same time,

The only option is indeed to use a USB KVM and a USB controller on the Amiga, so workbench only.

An alternative would be to not use the Amiga keyboard. Get a PS2 keyboard adapter for your Amiga so you can use a PS2 keyboard with it. Then use a PS2 switchbox so you can use the same keyboard with either computer.

I have one which (as Jope mentioned) I used to adapt the case left over from towering my A1200. It works ok, but I only use it with WinUAE.

I have an 8 bit version too which I was going to use with C64 emulation on my PC, but since I've bought a real C128 then I haven't bothered doing anything with it.

It's easy enough to fit and if you keep the pieces of the A1200 then it would be easy enough to put them back into the case at a later date.

No idea if that would actually work though.

@motorollin

exactly my thoughts...it might work.

@amazing

if the above doesnt work, perhaps you can get one of those EZ-PC? PS2 adaptors for the A1200 and use a PC keyboard on your A1200 and somehow mount it inplace of the A1200's original keyboard. Once you do that you can split it with a KVM switch or something and walla! :-)

anything is possible if you put your mind to the task.

The usb -> ps2 adapter would need to be something you coded together yourself (with a microcontroller), as the Keyrah cannot speak PS2, only USB.

Most of those small USB -> PS2 adapters are just connector adapters and the chip inside the keyboard or mouse knows to switch to ps2 mode.

The A1200 keyboard is a mitsumi model and if you can source an AT model from around 1997 (when I bought mine) you can even swap the Amiga keys for the windows ones.

Sadly when i got a PS2 model for my Amiga One in 2003, Mitsumi had changed the design of the keycaps. It's still a nice keyboard though and I'd rather use it to type on than an A1200 wedge.

Yes you are right, the small ones which just adapt the connector won't work in a PS2 port if the keyboard (or Keyrah in this case) is outputting USB data instead of PS2. But you can get intelligent USB to PS2 adapters which actually convert a USB keyboard to PS2.

Or is it the other way around after all? I own two different ps2->usb adapters to be able to use my beloved old keytronics on modern usb only pcs..

Please link me to an intelligent adapter that translates usb keyboards to ps2 sockets. I have yet to see one live or in pictures.
