I Finally managed to replace my old 2000

...of course it's coming with no software other than Workbench - a 'well loved keyboard' but I guess that's gonna be half the fun

Once it arrives I surely will! Going to be mailing off the check tomorrow. With shipping and handling it's going to be around 150 bucks.. not bad as it includes monitor, hd, twin floppies, keyboard and mouse.

A slight correction though - after I thought about it, I left my old 2000 behind in Australia in 1997 - so I guess it's been nearly 11 years! I bought that one just after then came out in 1987. I've kept up though - Played with UAE on linux, and at one stage had an Amithlon box going (till the hardware gave in, not had much luck finding older parts to make a new one).

So it's going to be a little adventure getting software across to it. Atm I'm thinking of doing it by CD. I put a scsii CD ROM in my old system, shouldn't be that hard to track one down that's to spec (I hope).

Sig.

Yes, you'll want a CD eventually but for the time being you can use Cross-Dos to get Aminet stuff downloaded on your compatable and moved on floppy to your A2000. Welcome Back!!

Hey Sig, great news.

I did a similar thing. I managed to pick up an stock A2000 at the end of 2006 for free from a chap in Houston.

I'd always wanted to get another one as it was my first Amiga in 1987, but I had to sell it when I emigrated to the USA in 1995. I'd picked up an A3000, but I hated the design campared to the BIG A2000 case.

Since then, I've added a 68030 CPU with more RAM, installed OS3.9, added a SCSI board for the HD and CD ROM, a Cybervision 643D RTG card and I just picked up a SDFF for those gold old native screen modes.

Have fun with it.

I'd recommend not wasting money on just a SCSI controller, spend a little extra and get one that includes an accelerator if you can find one.
CV64/3D is an awesome card in a 2000! I had one in my 2000 when it was my everyday computer. I sold it when I got the CVPPC for my 3000. Now I need to find another CV64/3D because I am building the 2000 back up. No, I won't brag in this thread about the accelerator I bought :-D

The 2000 has a scsi controller and HD on board already, but I know an accelerator is a great investment. My original one had one an 030 in it. As fate would have it - the very one my old machine had just came up on ebay a couple of hours ago: the GVP G-Force 030.. at just over 80 bucks I just couldn't resist picking it up as well.

030 @ 25mhz - scsi controller - populated with 5 megs - and has the 68882 math co-pro.. also has the install disk, which at this point is a HUGE must.

After a decade of super high prices and constantly being sniped, it looks like everything is coming together at last.

@Dan

hahah - would I be correct in assuming your pockets just got heavier

As for transferring - It's going to be a 'chicken or the egg' type problem I guess. If Cross Dos is already on there then all my problems are solved.. I just realized that it probably won't be able to read a CD just after installing one, which leaves me with trying to find Cross Dos on an Amiga formatted disk I guess.

I'll have to wait to see what I got when it arrives.

GVP 030 combo board arrived today, and KS 3.1 Rom. I got confirmation that the machine to put them in is on it's way... only one more week to wait!

@ Sig999

The GForce 030 Combo will only handle 16 Mb on the bus, Also it's SCSI is accelerated so dump the other controller.

If you can find a DKB megachip you can have 2Mb fast and 16Mb on the 030 card.

If you add a graphics card you must subtract that mem from the Combo card.

As you can see it would be best to find a 4 Meg graphic card.

Could your A2000 accelerator be a DKB Wildfire060, as mine is?
