Default Does anyone want to talk SAMPLITUDE?

Hi, do any users of samplitude out there want to talk about using it? It's been released as freeware for a few years now. I use it all the time to do simple editing & mastering of songs created in my home recording studio. Unfortutely, the Amigaguide manual that is included with it is lacking and even incomplete in some areas. I was hoping if we pool our knowledge, maybe we can reveal how some features work. Also, if you have questions about Samplitude, I will will try and help you out, too.

I know there is a SEK'D Samplitude Yahoo! group. Problem is that everyone there uses the latest PC version and can't help with the Amiga versin.

Here are some areas in Samplitude I just can't understand or get to work.

1) The Compression/Expansion/Noise Limiter DSP. I know how to use a real life compressor rack unit, but the interface in Samplitude is a little confusing. When think I've got it set right, the resultant sample is muted or noise gated in some bizarre way. Would appreciate some help with this strange interface. All I want to to is to get it to function like a normal compressor/limiter.

2) The BPM Raster. Apparently, there's some way to map the BPM of your sample to some sort of grid, etc. I can't figure that out, and the manual is missing.

3) MIDI implementation: there is supposed to be a way to allow MIDI to control Samplitude (i.e. to start and stop samples playing). I've tried, but I just cannot get it to function in any way. Again, the manual on this section is missing entirely.

...and if you have any questions about Samplitude, post them here. Maybe I can help answer them.

Although there have been high-end audio applications on the Amiga, it seems like none are currently being supported. With perhaps and hopefully the execption of ProStationAudio.

If ProStationAudio is gone, what about the porting of open source packages like Audacity?

Oh man....Audacity on the Amiga would be sooo great! It's already open source, too, so it would be entirely possible.

HD-REC is also being supported (and looks AWESOME). It's free too (right now) and very powerful. Unfortunately I can't run it as it requires at least an 060 (but really a PPC to run to its full potential).

Audacity requires wxWidgets which is why it's not been ported yet....

... but on the other hand once wxWidgets has been ported (if it happens) it should work straight away!

It's good to see some informed discussion about this!

The core routines, I imagine, are just matrix manipulations, while the wxWidgets GUI specifies how to mainpulate and displays the results. Is anybody familiar with wxWidgets and/or Audacity? If the core and the GUI are well factored, could a MUI GUI be used?
