Default Disk Checksum Errors

I have been plagued by disk checksum errors on ALL of my amigas (which eventually lead to DH0:NDOS). I receive them randomly after using the machine for a while. I suspected a virus, but after running virusx and viruselimiator – nothing was found. Under heavy disk i/o, the error will happen quicker than under normal use. Below are the configs I have tried:

Amiga 2000 rev 4.5
GVP G-Force 040 16mb (onboard scsi)
Quantum prodrive 525s and quantum atlas 10kiii 36gb
tried with a 2091 controller, but still received the error

Amiga 4000 rev B??? (has buster 9)
16MB, onboard ide
tried with both 13G WD ide and 9GB IBM ide

All of the drives I have tried work just fine in a pc. The machines seem perfectly stable without the hard drives – able to run vistapro renders for hours. I did notice something strange on the A4000. If I jumpered OFF the writeback cache on the WD ide drive, it would take MUCH longer to fail than with it on (15min vs 2min under heavy i/o load). Is it possible that a hard drive is too fast for the amiga? I was able to borrow an a2620/2091 for my A2000. I ran this config for an hour with no issues… I had to return the cards after an hour, so I’m not really sure if it would have stayed stable. Could this be some caching issue between the drive/dma/040???

Any advice would be appreciated.

How big are your partitions? Sounds like you're having trouble with the 4Gb barrier. Search this site for 4Gb barrier, filesystem and boot partition to find more information about this. There are a lot of topics about this problem and solutions for it.

Looks like misusing of the disks configurations.

Load hdtoolbox and set those specs to all partitions:

- Mask = 0x7ffffffe

- MaxTransfer = 0x1fe00

- Blocksize = 512 (if you change this value, you'll lost the partition's contents)

Well, I think I got all working on the A4k. I ended up going into hdtoolbox(workbench 3.1) and restricting the drive size to <4gb. I then created two 2gb partitions. What a PITA because hdtoolbox will let me use 8gb, but I guess >4gb will give the problems i experienced...

Thanks All for your help!
