OS4 on classic updates
« on: October 03, 2007, 12:41:23 AM »
Any rumors? Any updates? Any release date?

Looking through Rogues posts in his regular haunts as most will know. Classic OS4 has been in the works since they 1st started on the OS and B/CPPC/Mediator support has been added  :-D
I heard a rumor on irc that the only thing left is the installer which shouldnt take long.
Is it time yet for beta testers to break the scilence?
What have you heard?

all in a power tower OS 3.9 AND 4.0. :-D

Don't believe it until you see it. I gave up over 2 years ago and sold my PPC boards. OS4 has no pulse, rigamortis has set in.

Sorry to be so negative, but that is reality. A person or 2 may or may not pick up flame throwers and aim my direction, but they've been doing that for years and still nothing has happened.
Someone has to state the obvious and that someone is me!

How about "as much use as a snooze button on a fire alarm" or "as much use as a choclate fire guard".
Back on subject tho... OS4 definately has been made for A1 and classic has always been slated to follow, why wouldnt they do it? I know there is supposed to be a possibility prob with lawyers or has that been resolved? Why would it be useless on classic? IMO it should be better than messing around with OS3.9 and all the dam patches and software, i hate clean installs it takes so long. There must be beta testers out there on this forum or some definate news. Rogue where are you.....

It's easy to not hear new ones. It's not hearing the old ones that should concern you.

So they are basing it on 5 users? Were these the testers? Or was it a poll? I find this one hard to believe.

5 user is a joke. I think hyperion can sell 500-700 unit for the classic version. Its not a high number but if they relase soon the ones who sold their ppc will buy againit just to see who it works. The price will be 100 EUR AFAIK. I think it will be out in this year. If not i get a g-rex and install morphos classic....

The latest Classic version have been installed onto an Amiga4000 (mine), and was also available on an A1K2 at AmiCon a few weeks ago.
And it´s good, really good. I have no OS3.9 on my A4K since then.
My fav demo runs as hell on it, much faster than on a 060 under 3.9 (Respirator Stories).

I have no time to set up and install everything what i use daily, but sooner or later it will cover all my needs as OS3.9 did it before OS4.

Regards,

Reynolds

According to Bill's recent letter to the Amiga community, they want to release OS4 "soon", and none of the delays were their fault  So we're really no further forward. My suggestion if you must have a PPC Amiga-like OS now is to use MorphOS.

My favourite is "inflatable dartboard."

To be at least a little bit on topic, there is a classic A1200  PPC/BVision here waiting to have OS4 on if only someone could sell it to me!

If they had common sense they would release OS4 to run in macintosh G3, G4 and G5 computers, they could sell thousands of copies of the OS since the hardware is cheap to get. Wait, who am I kidding, common sense left a decade ago

I had to double-check your posting date to make sure it wasn't an old thread from circa 2003. That right there should tell you pretty much everything you need to know about OS4 on classic PPC hardware.

Why would it be useless on classic?
Who said it would only be useless on classic? It's a deadend OS, classic or not.
