I saw this on the 3dfx website....
"Q: It also stated it has DVD Hardware Assist. I currently have a DVD Hardware Decoder card. When I purchase a Voodoo3 will I be able to remove the original DVD Decoder card and play DVD movies directly thru the Voodoo 3 Card? A: You can still use your original DVD decoder card. The Voodoo3 card will just make the DVD decoding operate faster. By integrating offers planar-to-packed conversion in hardware the Voodoo3 offers full 30 fps (frames per second) MPEG-2 Playback with no dropped frames, and Soft DVD support for all major CODECs." My question is, can the DVD features of the Voodoo3 be accessed with a mediator based Amiga? |

I've seen screenies of ppl running mooVid on V3s, but don't know if it targets the hardware specifically. It was written with accelerated support for Picasso cards. If there's some kind of VESA standard for the hardware scaling routines, then I guess the V3 works just as good as the picasso, but I don't know if any extra support is added.

The problem is that AFAIK amiga os don't support the voodoo's HW decoding. So if somebody write a good driver it will...

It sure is possible. It'd require adding support for the HW feature (in the voodoo drivers), aswell as designing some nice API for it. Then you'd need to write some software that uses the new API. Since Elbox isn't very likely to share the Voodoo drivers, I'm afraid this is never going to happen. |
