Default Cybervision 64/3D

G'day all. I've decided to resurrect my old A4000/040 and I need some help.

Both of my C= 1960s blew up (literally) quite a few years ago and my 1084 hasn't worked in years either. Anyways, to my question - if I buy a Cybervision 64/3D card for use with an old VGA CRT monitor, will games that run natively at 15kHz be displayed at all or am I just going to be wasting money?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Cybervision 64/3D doesn't have a scandoubler, but an optional scandoubler module exists.
It works like a charm, letting you play classic games and demos on a VGA monitor. Without it, you will be limited to Workbench and system friendly apps.

If you take a look at Amigakit's picture, you can see that there is room for a scandoubler module where the card is thinner. Installing them both together (physically) is hell, but once you have done it, it's great!

G'day Madsjm. Thanks for your reply.

Re: Scandoubler - that's pretty much what I thought I'd need for the lower frequency. An incredibly hard thing to find. What would be your suggestion? Get the old 1084 fixed or try to source a scandoubler of some sort from somewhere? Perhaps you have another option?

Thanks again.

I actually have a scandoubler module for the Cybervision which I don't use, but buying a pre-owned 1084 should be much cheaper than what I would want for the scandoubler.

Also, if you live in Europe, you can buy a tv with scart connector and an Amiga to scart cable. That will give you a crisp picture equivalent to the 1084.

You make it sound like you couldn't do it in the rest of the world?

I believe that SCART originates from France, and that it's not very common in e.g. The United States, but I may be wrong.

Eyetech also made an automatic monitor switcher for CV64/3D and a scandoubler/flickerfixer could be added to it; but it was a pricey combo.

No doubt an old 1084 would be cheaper. I'm not that keen on going back to using such a small monitor though as I've got a 19" CRT sitting in the shed doing nothing. I'd like to be able to use it if possible. I suppose with a video card of some sort, at least the productivity modes would work OK?

Honestly, I've never looked for SCART hardware over my way (Australia) but I'm not sure that a new SCART TV would be cheaper than a new video card and scandoubler.

Going out on a limb here, would it be possible to connect a VGA monitor to the Cybervision and a 1084 to an RF modulator at the same time.... turning off whichever isn't needed?

Yes, I am 95% sure that this would work. The native Amiga RGB video out should work side by side with the gfx card.
I don't actually own a Cybervision, so can anyone confirm it?

BTW: Why would you need an RF modulator for your 1084? :-?

The more I think about the Cybervision card, the more I'd like one. If it does work and both output video at the same time, what would be the consequences of sending 15kHz to a vga monitor? Or worse, sending 31kHz to a 1084? Will they just not display properly or can I do some serious damage?

LOL! That's a fair question. :-) I haven't used my 1084 as a monitor in probably 15 years and not at all in the last 10. The 1084 lead will be in the shed somewhere... just not sure where. I know where my A520s and the leads are.

When you install the ccypergraphix software it sets it to switch off the amigas native video output when its not being used. when you run a game it will switch the output back on
