Default Compact Flash not working with Bloodwich advanced.

Hi, I've got a compact flash card that i'm using to transfer files from my PC

through PCMCIA. This works ok if I boot from the compact flash driver disk,

but makes workbench crash if I boot from hard disk.

The OS I'm using is bloodwich advanced setup, is it this thats the problem?

I've got a 8mb trapdoor expansion - I have read that this might cause the

compact flash to stop working, but it all works if I boot from floppy (i.e.

not using Bloodwich advanced) - and I get my 8mb too.

Please let me know if you have any ideas, thanks, Rick. (in the UK)

@JJ
he means Classic Workbench advanced setup, prepared by BloodWych from EAB forum.
@raj
no, you're definitely having a pcmcia/8mb mayhem here, nothing to do with classic workbench.

EDIT : Link removed due to request

umm, I thought it might be the 8mb problem, but how come this works if I boot from the flash card drivers disk?

sorry for not correctly referencing the classic workbench.

Thanks, rick.

I'd look in startup-sequence, user-startup and libs on the driver disk and see if theres anything you need to add to your normal bootup.

@countzero

Please remove the link. These archives include kickstart files, full workbench install, deluxe paint IV and probably some other warez.

We don't want a.org to get into trouble, right?

Oh, and before anyone complains about this
Quote:
PLEASE NOTE:

In order to use this Workbench, you MUST follow the install procedure provided

You'll need a valid Workbench 3.0/3.1 ADF, without one the install will fail

Vital and copyright files contained on the disk will be copied during the installation

This is required because Workbench is still sold commercially

The copyright holders can be found at: http://amigaforever.com/
That's a lie. The installation ADF is included in the archive (it too includes © files). The installation procedure doesn't copy any files from original disks, either [EDIT] (or if it does, it only copies only few of them) [/EDIT].

Piru, if you're referring to the ClassicWB Real Amiga Install disk, that's just a utility disk to unzip an installed cwb installed setup on a real amiga. I don't think there's any © stuff there, and it definitely can't be used instead of a real workbench disk. Now, I can't standup for classic workbench having any copyright material, but I'm sure that floppy image can't be used to bypass workbench disk request.

I removed the link anyway due to not wanting take any chances.

There is. Look into C drawer. Most of those commands are © Amiga Inc.

Ah, so it requests the floppy at some later stage then. However, the HDF-image has hundreds of Workbench files and at least 3 Kickstart ROM Images, all copyright Amiga Inc.

I'll do full inspection of the included copyrighted AmigaOS files later on, but from the preview I did, it looked like full install to me. Even if it would require the Workbench disk, it still doesn't justify spreading pretty much full AmigaOS installation, including the KS ROMs...

Anyhow, thank you for removing the link.

Default Re: Compact Flash not working with Bloodwich advanced.

Since I had some time, I had a look at the installer script. This is the workbench protection part :

Code:
IF "`df0:c/which DF0:`" EQ "Workbench3.0:"
   ECHO ""
ECHO "Disk appears to be Workbench 3.0 release."
   ECHO ""
   ECHO "Checking version number..." NOLINE
   df0:c/wait 1
   df0:c/VERSION >nil: DF0:libs/version.library 39 FILE
      IF WARN
         ECHO "INCORRECT!"
         SKIP SECOND
      ELSE
         ECHO "CORRECT!"
         SKIP PASS
      ENDIF
   ECHO ""
ENDIF

LAB SECOND

IF "`df0:c/which DF0:`" EQ "Workbench3.1:"
   ECHO ""
ECHO "Disk appears to be Workbench 3.1 release."
   ECHO ""
   ECHO "Checking version number..." NOLINE
   df0:c/wait 1
   df0:c/VERSION >nil: DF0:libs/version.library 39 FILE
      IF WARN
         ECHO "INCORRECT!"
         SKIP FAIL
      ELSE
         ECHO "CORRECT!"
         SKIP PASS
      ENDIF
   ECHO ""
ENDIF
which means you need a floppy with at least the version command and the version.library (both of which do not exist on the real_amiga_install disk). Ok, you can write your own dummy version command and version.library to go with it, but it's pretty out of the scope of avarage joe I guess.

Anyway, and here are the files copied from the workbench disk :

Code:
copy >NIL: df0:c/Addbuffers SYS:c
copy >NIL: df0:c/Binddrivers SYS:c
copy >NIL: df0:c/Conclip SYS:c
copy >NIL: df0:c/Delete SYS:c
copy >NIL: df0:c/Dir SYS:c
copy >NIL: df0:c/Ed SYS:c
copy >NIL: df0:c/Edit SYS:c
copy >NIL: df0:c/IPrefs SYS:c
copy >NIL: df0:c/List SYS:c
copy >NIL: df0:c/Makedir SYS:c
copy >NIL: df0:c/Mount SYS:c
copy >NIL: df0:c/Rename SYS:c
copy >NIL: df0:c/Version SYS:c
copy >NIL: df0:c/Wait SYS:c
actually, yeah it's not that they cared to leave copyrighted stuff out, but it's still useless to someone without a workbench floppy.

This thing is clearly warez, and doesn't belong to amiga.org. Even if you would ignore the Kickstart ROMs, and the fact that it isn't fully functional without the Workbench ADF at install time, it still includes pirated versions of commercial applications.

The disk version detection script reminds me of the AIAB one, but it's probably just a coincidence.

Kind regards,
