My A1200 keyborad is having problems, seems is won't recognize Shift and the num lock. I fiddled with the keyboard cable and that seems to be the problem, not all the contacts are being read. Is there a quick fix, like give it a little snip or something, some cleaner for it or way to clean the contacks?
Thanks |

Try rubbing isopropyl on the ribbon cable contacts and spraying compressed air in to the connector on the motherboard. Make sure there are no folds or breaks in the ribbon. When you replace the cable make sure it definitely goes all the way in.

no, you'll have to buy liquid silver (expensive) to fix that. check Aminet it has a manual for such repair.

Don't you think it is worth at least trying to clean it up first, in case it is just dirt or corrosion?

no, trying to 'clean up' will just make it worse by removing more graphite..

If it's graphite as someone has said in this thread, why not rub a pencil on the contacts to put some graphite back?
This used to work on old 80s calculators. WTF |

WotTheFook, because its graphite on the 'plastic' cable/membrane and not on some rubber.

Why not simply reinsert the membrane into the conector, just to see if there is a change in the kb behaviour?

EDIT: I stand corrected - the pads appear to be carbon.
Still - it should be safe to clean it with a non-abrasive wipe, such as (as Moto originally suggested) isopropyl alcohol with a cotton bud (q-tip, whatever your local lingo is for this). PS - "'Scuse me, while I kiss the sky." (couldn't resist :-P )
