memory expansion problem

Hi ppl,
        i just bought a 4mb memory expansion for my 1200, when i turn it on with the memory in the screen just comes up purple, when i take it out its fine again.  its definitely in the slot properly, is it broken or have i done something wrong?

Purple means bad RAM.

 Check the board for battery leakage, broken tracks, etc.

 If nothing helps, return it to the dealer.

 BTW: What kind of board is that? An Elbox 1200/4? Other?

yeah its an elbox 1200/4, i got it off one of the guys on this site, if he wont take it back can bad ram be repaired? are there places that still do amiga repairs?

Make sure the metal shield next to the connector is not touching the motherboard.  This is a common problem and will do what you describe.

Sometimes they are close enough that the pressure of the card installed will force the board to make contact grounding out the traces.
