Default Linux on the AmigaOne

Hello to all the community of Amiga.

My question is about how to install Linux with an existing
OS 4.0 installation on the Amiga One.

I have been thinking a lot to backup and reinstall all again
to have Debian Linux+AmigaOS4.0 together but I cannot see
why Frying Pan now don't execute and with MakeCD I cannot
register with the public key avaliable for the public.

Maybe that's a minor issue and I remember how good were
the applications of Debian Linux when the Amiga One came to me
on September 2003;applications and programs like Xine,UAE and
the incredible MacOnLinux emulator that was like the real
Macintosh on my Amiga One with 800 Mhz.

What do I have to do with the OS 4.0 existing installation
to run theese two OSes at the same time?

Thank you in advance.

I had troubles using the registration string in MakeCD too, eventually I found out how to enter it, this works under OS4: you have to confirm every field with the Return key and all fields must be filled, then the "Save" button will appear.

Regarding Linux, there's still only the original Woody installer for A1, after that you'll have to upgrade your system the the more recent Etch version. Do you have the Debian Woody installation CDs? You should have also some space free on your hard drive to setup the dedicated partitions.

As Varthall advises you have to start with a Woody installation and work up by upgrade. Also be advised that some of the later kernels for A1 by Geri allow OSX to work with sound and network there are problems running OS9.2 (we are trying to work out why). Games such as Starcraft and Age of Empires I and II run far better directly under OS9.2, they do work under OSX using classic emulation but with less than optimal results.

The 2.4.26 kernel is good for OS9.2.

Hope this helps.

Thanks

This helps but when I want to register to MakeCD I only
see one single field to fill so how can I fulfill my registration?

And for Linux I have the Debian Install CD as the rest of the installation CDs but I am not secure to install Linux
with OS 4.0 installed at the moment.I have two versions of
Linux: the one that came up with the Amiga One and the other that send me the vendors of the Amiga One when it's
got repaired. At some time I have Linux+OS4.0 running paralelly and for some failure of me probably I lost the
Linux partitions. Now I am thinking about it...

What does it mean work for an upgrade?I really don't understand this sentence.

more ideas please,I'm really on a difficult crossroad.

He said "work up by upgrade", meaning you have to work your way up to the latest version by upgrading from a Woody installation.
In other words, you cannot install latest version, you have to install older version and upgrade to latest.

No comment on anything else, I don't have an AOne.

Can you please describe your A1 hardware. Do you have a sil card, memory, graphics card and motherboards (A1 XE, SE U1) seperate drives for Linux and AOS or were they on the same partition. I realise English is not your first language but let's see what we can do to help.

First I want to make clear that my english normally is better than you can figure, but I spent last night in front
of my Amiga One so I am a bit tired. And second that I am from Spain so my way of typing english is far different as you can figure as an native english speaker. No problem after all probably my second language is english, yes.

Well, here it goes my Amiga One configuration:

-Amiga One XE G3 800 Mhz
-DVD-Rom LG 48x 16x
-DVD-RW NEC
-Floppy Disk
-ATI Radeon GFX Card 7000 64 MB
-Sounblaster 128 Sound Card
-TV Card PixelView
-Seagate HD 200 GB OS 4.0 update#4
-256 MB Ram
-Monitor LG 19 inch
