Surely the principle would be the same whichever card he's using :-)

Is the fan on a heatsink? If so then you could use some thermal glue which will adhere the heatsink to the CPU and hold it in place, while also assisting with conducting the heat away from the chip.

If it's just a fan and there are no mountings for the fan on the board, then you might have to carefully cable-tie it to the board. I can't think of any other way.

OOPS changed my signature! No it's just the basic black plastic fan.It was origionally held on with some sort of GLUE?There is nowhere to screw or mount it to on the card.Would a heatsink with the fan screwed to that be a better idea?Would thermal paste be enough to hold the heatsink in place or does that not set hard?

If the card do not have holes to secure the fan, obviously they have not holes to secure a cooler. :roll:

Buy a cooler WITH THERMAL GLUE. There are some kits around with some heatsinks ready to glue everywhere, look for it.

When you say thermal glue do you mean the same as thermal paste? or thermal compound?

Super Glue will be just fine. It does not suffer from heat problems, see my website, www.amiga600.net for info on how I used it to attach some heatsinks to an Apollo 030.

@1200
Cannot connect to website!Was wondering if I could get away with using superglue?I guess I was hoping someone else had used it successfully before I tried it.

@ MickTheLip

Try now, something had crashed. I think Christian used superglue in his project too see: www.amiga600.de

Thanks!

Superglue is known to chemists as cyanoacrilate or CA to car tuning fans. It is not good for any electronics related projects because it can conduct electricity and cause electrical shorts or resistive losses causing small fires.

The best stuff to hold your fan in place without causing a catastrophy is 24 hour epoxy. It is the same stuff used by Commodore in virtually all the power supplies made for the Commodore 64 because it is a high quality electrical isolator.

5 minutes epoxy might do the job too but only 24 hour epoxy is garanteed to be safe with electronics because of its electrical isolation properties.
