Well, probably because a scandoubler is not as simple as you might think. ;-) It is quite a complex device and it's not exacly something you can build easily by yourself...

I see.. I don't own one but i assumed that they are simple because (/me thought) "It just doubles the frequency of the video signal"

Anyway, there is something else i need to ask: Every TV with a scart (RGB) input i have found needs a custom cable because the standard Amiga RGB cable won't fit. It's not a big deal to made one, but are there any TVs with an "Amiga compatible" scart input?

PS: Also, how should i describe this custom cable to a technician who doesn't know about Amigas?

Go aminet, there is some guide, with sematic. Print it and show to the technician. (maybe pinout.ru or similar site describe it too.)

Or buy from directly an amiga dealer (you know amigakit, vesalia etc.)

I dont agree, I think they are artificially high. I am sure that anyone with an ounce of PCB experience could make an RGB scandoubler for about $30-40 (if they made and sold about 200)

Two Averlogic chips are the cheapest solution. The AL875A Tripple ADC and AL251 scandoubler. (Plus all the discretes, connectors etc).

I'm with Alex. Was looking at the Scanmagic and Eyetech SD tother day (identical to all intents and purposes). Nowt more than one "logic" chip, a little chip, and 4 RAM chips (presumably buffering the display), and a flying lead to Alice... it cant be *that* hard if one had an SMT machine. of course, whether there is any custom firmware in that logic chip is another matter. Oh, and the small discretes.

I'm wondering if Eyetech did make the EZMON, made under licence, or bought in from whoever made ScanMagic. If the former, I wonder if Alan would release the schematics...

The "little chip" is usually a Plessy VP101 3-channel video DAC (I worked with the team that designed this!)

The logic "CPLD" chip is the heart of the system and probably encorporates a 3-channel "homebrew" ADC (I dont think you can get Digital video from the Amiga motherboard) and control logic over the RAMS.

The code (RTL/Gates) for the CPLD chip is more important than the schematics of the boards.

The two chips that I mention are almost certainly cheaper than the usual Amiga "custom" solution and I dont think they need external DRAM.

Is there any among us with the contacts or knowledge who could put theory in to practice, even maybe market them through amigakit.com.

Could and would benfit us all, and make money at the same time.

Ahh-leeexx (in that drawn out voice daughters use when they want something)

Given where you work.... ;-)

Thinking about it, I have a broke scanmagic, how much is the Xilinx(? cant read it because the chip blew!) chip, any ideas? Just wondering how much a chip and a bit of SMT work would cost?
