Mouse adaptor question
« on: January 15, 2007, 10:00:59 AM »
So, it's this amiga mouse->PS2 adaptor here:

[img=http://img23.imagevenue.com/loc314/th_55097_5ab5_1_122_314lo.JPG]

the seller says it supports optical usb mice through usb->ps2 adapter and that it supports the middle button, but he's not sure the wheel is supported.

My question to anyone who may have it already is this:
does the wheel work with, say, freewheel loaded?

Thx :)

Why not go for the Cocolino? I've seen a wireless optical mouse with scrollwheel working with it, and it's way smaller than this huge converter cable thingie..

It can't be a lot more expensive either...

EDIT: I'm not completely sure if it works correct with USB mice though...

well....this one goes for 30 euros including p&p while the cocolino is 50 euros. Besides, for me it is a feature that this one has that long cable. The way my tower is placed, its back is far from the table and it gives some extra cable length to work with. Thx for the suggestion tho :)

ah yes, I see  :-)

I already have some wirefull optical ones, why buy a new? besides, call me paranoid, but I don't like mobile and wireless devices sending their data through my body....then again it's radio and tv that do the same anyway, but since I can't do anything about it.....

and it worked great with my USB-to-PS2 converter and optical USB mouse (Kensington brand). Wheel works with software as far as I know, just haven't gotten a chance to install it myself. I'm sure someone else has.

I've not tried with my wireless Logitech mouse, but I can let you know when I try it.

Cocolino will work with USB mice, but you have to be sure to buy one that states ps/2, USB compatible. Some I have tried that state USB only on the package didnt work even with the adapter.

I already have the cocolino and works well with ps2/usb adapters and wheels, I was just wondering if that adaptor will give me a functional wheel since it's cheaper (30 euros including postage compared to 50euros with postage of cocolino), it supports the adapters and optical mice and it has that extra cable length that I need. Thanks everybody for helping tho :-)

@amiga92570:

Aha! Hmmm.. maybe that's why that other P.O.S. mouse never worked... It's gone now and I didn't get a chance to see if it said anything about "USB only".

Do you know what is actually different with the ones that say "PS/2, USB compatible", since they still only use 1 cable (usually USB) and rely on the converter?

Thanks

I suspect the usb only have a resistor that drops the voltage to much to be used on the PS/2. I have not opened one up to verify however. The connection should be the same for both.
