Default PCI Extension... cable?
Ok, I am a total "noob" when it comes to electronics, so please forgive me if this is a stupid question:

Imagine a flexible cable with a male PCI connector in one end, and a female PCI connector in the other. In other words, an extension cord for PCI ports, allowing you to "move" a PCI port a few inches.

Does such a cable exist, or will it F-up the PCI timing too much? Even on a 33MHz PCI system, such as the ones available for the Amiga?

The reason I'm asking is because I want to fit an A1200 inside an awesome-looking tower without dremeling too much. I picture the motherboard bolted deep inside the computer, with extension cords connecting it to the outside world.

infact there are flexible pci extension cables, used in small ht-pc's and car pc's ... if u search ebay you will fond some I am sure! common lenghts are 10cm and 15cm...

Yes they exist and if you only use one that are a couple inches long it should work. Once you start going over 4 inches, timing will be an issue and it will probably stop working.
I was able to use up to about 4" extension IIRC. My experience was with the Prometheus, I don't know if the Mediator is as tolerant.

I've always thought it'd be cool to create a PCI expansion box... Using some form of signal relaying cards on each end. That way you could use a small PCI bridge, keep the Amiga in its original box, and have an entire case of nothing but PCI backplane (and perhaps drives, if someone whould write drivers for a PCI SCSI adapter).
