Hey guys, I am having problems installing a lot of apps on my 3GB Partition. Is there a way to fix this?? I thought Amiga had a 4GB partition limit?

What kind of errors?
Is it your boot partition?

I think it's a 2GB limit with the version of FFS shipped in OS3.1 (easily bypassed with newer FFS or other filesystem).
It's probably your version of Installer that's choking. Make sure it's v43.3 or higher. |

My thoughts exactly, that's why I wondered if it was the boot partition. I, too, believe it's a 2GB limit on pre-3.1 releases.

Some of the apps have a builtin installer. How can I bypass that?

Add enough dummy files so that free storage gets below 2GB. Then the math will not overflow for these stupid installers.
Once you've installed you can delete the dummy files. You can repeat this if/when needed. |

If the programs use Installer from their own disk, just change the default tool to point to the version on your hard drive. Or run your version of Installer from the command line, specifying the program's install script as an argument.
If you're talking about a completely proprietary install tool, try Piru's advice, or try installing to RAM: and then move the program where you really want it. If it adds any assigns to your user-startup, make sure to change them so they point to the correct place. |
