I've been using AsimCDFS for years and want to give Cache a try if its worth it. How can i get it working and safely remove Asim?

AFAIR, you can do it by moving your old CD0 dosdriver to SYS:Storage/DOSDrivers and copy the cachecdfs one into its place (or use the installer). If you don't like Cache, just copy the old one back. It's simple. :-)

Well its not that simple. Asim mounts its driver to the RAM drive and keeps it there at start up.
I've tried to put CD0 in devs and it just refuses to boot my system, so I need more advice. |

Where's the driver loaded?? I would install CacheCDFS and then remove the Asim drivers.

I think you will find yourself going back to AsimCDFS very quickly. CacheCDFS is as basic as it gets. It is basically on the CD to be able to install the AmigaOS.
It reads CDs only, and you will find it is not even in the same ballpark as AsimCDFS. For example try to copy an audio track off a CD to one of your hard drives with CacheCDFS. You cannot do it, however AsimCDFS will copy the track. Again CacheCDFS is as basic as it gets, while AsimCDFS is a full featured CD filesystem. regards,

AsimCDFS is old hat. CacheCDFS is the current best CDFS atm, developed by IDEFIX auther.
your right about cachecdfs being in a diferent ballpark, but thats due to AsimCDFS being lade to rest long ago. So what you cant drag audio to the hd, ill use a riping and mp3 encoder if i cared for it. What you do get with CacheCDFS is Speed. Of course you may need to optimise cache settings to suite you requirments. Joilet support, Multivolume support (very handy) full msdos name support and implemented in totaly os freindly way. Very far from basic id say, quite a few options to keep ya going. |
