Can part of it be downloaded now? Or have we wait till march?

All the Java source code is expected to be released by March, Green said. The move covers all Java technology, which includes software that runs on hand-held devices, personal computers and servers.

I'm not much of a (modern language) programmer beyond some simple Hello world or such  :-(

So.. My question is, would Java be as complicated to port as OO.o? Or is it as simple as a couple find and replace in Vi and recompiling?

@Piru

Thanks for the link.

Here's what I found:
HotSpot FAQ - How to build Java VM
Java VM sources download page
Build log

I'm unable to find the dependicies. They only say that a linux-i586 or solaris-i586 machine with the appropriate compilers is needed. Additionaly, class libraries are needed but AFAIK that's not needed for the JVM compilation itself.

So, who's gonna try it first? :D
They say it usually takes 2 hours to compile it, well, probaby not on a 060 CPU. :)
