Now to see what are compatible used at the same time.
First off the 1750 512k ram expander, that should work with everything. Aaah sweet, 640K 8bit computer. Well that is until I hack it to 2Mb :-D Next will be the retro replay with Silver Surfer, should work at the same time with the RAM. I gotta have a high speed serial port to use the 128D on the internet you know! Finally, for now, will be the Pwr/Link for use with 64HDD. Having a hard drive on the 128D is also quite useful. This will be the question mark, I don't have it yet. It's still in transit from down under. This may not work at the same time as Retro Replay, which would suck. But if it doesn't, there are more than one way to skin a cat ;-) I can use a y serial cable(and maybe a switcher) and just disable the Pwr/Link when i need to use the Silver Surfer. Witht he Y-cable access the 64HDD through the serial link (slower). I also have a 1581 and the 1750 ram disk for mass storage. Any other C= power users still here? I know you are :-D

Red,
Doesn't Individual Computers sell a MMC card device that also has a clockport or passthrough so you could use the retro replay and silversurfer with the digital card instead of your old harddisk? Just a thought. |

I don't know about power user but I have a c128d/1581 jiffydos and 512kb expansion. I also have a naff cartridge switcher, that should allow "switching" between carts, but certainly the retroreplay doesn't work with other carts plugged into it.
It's all quite new kit for me, so I haven't used it a great deal yet - apart from installing a case fan some heatsinks, and replacing the vic (it had a faulty one which didn't work after it got warm. my previous fix was a large heatsink, + cpu fan! - in the end I got a replacement) |

Well,I am a C128 power owner!!
My first C128D setup favorably impressed the lady who became my wife for a few years ;now EVERYBODY has a computer,well almost everybody. Have four C128Ds and at least that many flat C128s,several different 3,4,and 5 port expanders.CMD HD200,SuperCPU,several 17XX,SwiftLink,etc. Geos128 with a 1750 ,HD,1581,and 1571 can really show how good 8bit busines computing was/is!! Haven't used the 8bitters since getting high-speed internet. My phone line is fiber optic from the central office to a neighborhood box and copper wire the last couple of miles. Some of the copper is buried,some is standard utility overhead phone cable and about a quarter mile is a pretty orange wire laying across the weed tops of the roadside(except where the deer repeatedly broke or dragged the wire and it has pretty blue wire spliced in!! I LOVE high tech. |

Nice site!! That's a hell of a good soldering job you do there!! My soldering looks like a mess compared to you :-) @Argus Yes and no. I own a MMC64, but it's MMC card support isn't like a hard drive. :-( @-D- I saw that one and was temped to buy it myself as a backup. Last time I checked there was only an hour left and only bid up to $61. Shipping was reasonable too. You should have gotten it. @buzz First try I can't get either the MMC64 or the Retro Replay to work at all :-( @recidivist WOW!! You are a power user!! I bow to you :-D I used to drool over the CMD stuff, but back when CMD was still in business I couldn't afford the price tags. Now I can afford CMD stuff, but it's impossible to get. You say you don't use your Commodore stuff anymore? If you feel like selling it, I'd be VERY eager to unload it from you. I'm dying to get my hands on some CMD stuff :-D PM me if you are interested in selling :-D

Nice to see there are people who have their Commodore 128s.
The very first computer I had was infact a C128D. Now I got a Brown C64, C64 c, and a C128. I have it connected to my pc via nullmodem cable, and I cruise BBS systems with novaterm. For C128 users, we should all meet up at Temporal Vortex sometime and chat there. bbs.petscii.com 6400 Its not too active now, but it has been worked on REALLY good. If anyone is interested in setting up a date during the week to meet up on Temporal Vortex and chat there, let me know. :-)

If you missed it, there was a complete running C=128 system displayed near the front at Weird Stuff Warehouse for $200

@kd7ota
I could do that, though some of the others here may need assistance setting up to cruise BBS'es. One question, Temporal Vortex is a multiline BBS with a chat area? If you want to set up a time, I can probably make it. :-) Heck i may even log in on my Vic20 :-D

You did probably set the 40/80 switch right? And the CVBS/RGB switch on the monitor etc? Just making sure.

Sounds good. This weekend I can't. I also wouldnt mind helping others into logging into temporal vortex. My C128 just signed in just fine. Though acts a bit flaky, it made it. @Everyone else Even if others dont have the real commodore machines signing in, they can always use CGTERM. ![]() CG Term And after you extract it to the desired folder, run cgterm.exe and press D to type in an address to connect to, and type in: bbs.petscii.com 6400 After that, your set! Sign up and cruise away.

Nice .. don't suppose you could make a schematic of it could you ? I've been trying to find one of those for aaagggeeesssss .. be quicker for me to make one! :-)
I'm not quite a power user but I do have : 2 * C128's 1 * C128D 1 * 1571 1 * 1581 2 * 1541-II 1 * 1541 1700 REU (512K) MMC64 Mouse Of course only a C128 is plumbed into it all. Just need a port expanded like yours to make things easier (or make one! :-) |
