Default Debian and fonts

I'm sick of using truetype fonts on Debian Linux. even with hinting set at full and antialiasing=off, most of fonts look awful compared to win xp, especially small sizes.
I would like to set KDE to use bitmap fonts, but cant find them in cotrol center when choosing fonts. How do I set it?
