Hi:
i just finnalize to install OS3.9 on a A3000 with a 2.1 gb scsi HD (internal) and 2 external scsi units (jaz and cdrom).
After reboot i was surprised to find the following error:

Cannot open "resource.library", version 44.0. Unable to run amidock.

Check out this page from the OS3.9 FAQ:

http://www.gregdonner.org/os39faq/installtips.html#20

Quote:
Q:

On bootup, I get the following error message: "Cannot open resource.library, version 44, unable to load AmiDock". I have the correct version of resource.library installed, and AmiDock exists in SYS:WBStartup. Why does this appear, and how do I eliminate this error?
A:

In many cases the problem message you received did not accurately reflect a missing or even damaged library, but rather the absence of a "#?.gadget" file that the resource.library function depends on. Check the SYS:Classes/Gadgets/ directory on your system partition and the OS3.9 directory of the install CD-ROM and manually copy any missing #?.gadget files. Ensure that all the #?.gadget files are the latest versions (do this by checking the latest Boing Bag first, then the OS 3.9 CD-ROM).

[Mike Wilson/Cor Kriekaart]

Another cause for this message may be a corrupt or incorrectly installed 68040.library and/or 68060.library file. Make sure that you're using the correct--and valid--680x0.libraries. Such a corrupt file may work under OS 3.1, but will fail in OS 3.9.

[Rob Pleak]

Note that UnixDirs3 has the ability to redirect '/' to be the same as ':'; the root of the drive. This causes many poorly written installers to fail that rely on '/' to be 'parent directory'.

BTW, I've experienced this before and the first answer is what worked for me.

Hi:
i tried the gadgets answer last night without any results. The exact version of the gadgets was installed on the HD (same on the cd). What i didn't understand was the idea of a bad 68040.library. Any ideas there.

I allready tried with the setpath quiet skipromupdates "scsi.device"
No changes.

After the installation of OS 3.09 (no bb still), the second thing that i noticed was that not every icon was updated to the standard glowicons. Maybe this can be another clue.

Best Regards

Rod

No. I was never able to get a good a emergency floppy disk done. But this is the first time i get this error. I already installed 3.9 on a A4000, A1200 and A500 without any errors.

Very strange and now i cant move forward.

Any ideas?

OS 3.9 can only be installed correctly if the running system is at OS 3.5 or 3.9 level. That's why you should use the emergency disk. You cannot install it from OS 3.1.

Now you should install it again on top of what you have. Choose "Full installation on empty HDD" when asked what to install.

After that at least the icons should be correct, but I guess also the resource.library problem will be gone.

If it isn't, check your Libs directory if there are any gadget, image or class files in there. Delete them all.

Bye,
Thomas

Hi, I have the same or similar problem, but with my A500 with Ematrix530.

The OS3.1 works fine, it recognized the laptop CDROM on IDE2 (Idefix97 driver).
But I can't get a working emergency disk for upgrade to OS3.9 :getmad:
Make the e-disk gone well, but when restart, A500 ask to insert the AMIGAOS3.9 disk...

I've already installed OS3.9 in my A4000T and A4000D without problems...

edit:
OK, now it's working!! (re-format, re-install, etc.)
I have OS3.9 BB2 in my A500!!! :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D
