They're waiting for new hardware to be built so it won't be a marketing disaster when they promote it. For more info about AmigaOS 4 (which is currently up to prerelease 4 for those of us who have AmigaOne series computers) see AmigaWorld.net.

The key phrase is "under construction". There are at least 3 projects that have a goal of producing new hardware. None of them look like producing new hardware anytime soon.

OS4 will not support Pegasos (reasons are anyone's best guess: License from amiga inc is said to be the blocking factor, but those other projects seem to happily ignore the license problem. Personally I think the biggest problem is ego.)

If you want something now, the only choice is Pegasos and MorphOS. Then again, MorphOS is next generation amiga system aswell... If you want to read more about it, check Introduction to MorphOS and MorphOS Developer Connection (registering is free, and you get access to all developer material).

Isn't ACK Controls suppost to be demoing his hardware today?

Edit: Amiga OS 4.0 info -
http://os4.hyperion-entertainment.biz

Damn it. Nope, no demo... Hardware problems...

At this rate, it is slow and steady that wins the race. A lesson form the tortoise to the hare. Go, AROS, Go...

The Amiga OS4 hardware situation is just pathetic and not about to change in the near future.

A CPU-modules demonstration from ACK Controls was just canceled for the second time. See here:
http://amigaworld.net/modules/news/article.php?storyid=3142

The announcements of the other "company" Troika look even more vapourish.

Both basement projects failed to show anything so far.

I propose you don't wait for anything and move on.

I've just read the "20 Reasons" page on Hyperion's OS4 site. Very impressive! I want it :-(

The desktop (Ambient) is built on it. Naturally you can use whatever GUI system in your own apps, boopsi, gadtools, classact, bgui or whatever.

Quote:

In my personal opinion Firefox or Java are unlikely to happen for any amiga like system (AmigaOS 3.x, 4.x, MorphOS or AROS).
There's AmiZilla and JAmiga, but a lot should happen before these projects are finished.

Assuming they're OS friendly, yes.

Out of interest, what's wrong with MUI?

Wow. I'm sure that came as a complete shock to everyone.

C'mon does anyone really believe this carp anymore?

If you're including MacOSX in the list, with the 'not legally' qualifier, then you should include 'Amiga OS4' in there, with the same qualifier. The Peg also runs Amiga OS3.9 (under emulation), Aros PPC, QNX, FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenSolaris, and probably a few more I forgot.

What the hell is it with these companies that need to come up with "trendy" names for things like your display? They're getting as bad as Apple. It reminds me of the early usenet poo flinging over the "Workbench operating system".

So. How about the Coldfire card?
