Default S-video adapter for Amiga?

I setup an entertainment center not long ago driven by a media PC (running Meedio). I find I've been throwing more and more DIVX movies of Amiga demos on the PC to watch on the big screen. It occurred to me to grab a small Amiga. An Amiga 600. Hook it to the entertainment center and watch a few live old-school Amiga demos. (I've got an A2000 and an A1200 060 down in the comp room - just trying to go small here, hence the A600.)

In doing this, I'd like to use an S-Video signal. I recall reading a textfile that described how to modify an A520 adapter to provide S-Video out. Does anyone have such a modified unit they're looking to sell? If I provide an A520, can someone make the mod? Is there another route to S-Video on an A600?

I'm in the U.S. btw. Off to make sure my plasma screen can handle 50Hz PAL mode for demos. Tnx.

Quick additional Q: I've had many NTSC Amigas tied to 15KHz RGB screens and jumping to PAL mode w/ the super Agnus has been no sweat. Will a standard TV (forget my plasma) jump to 50Hz if its incoming composite (or S-Video) signal is 50Hz, or is that only an RGB thing? Tnx.

I've bought a used SVideo genlock from eBay (5 EUR) for that purpose - works like a charm.

Whether or not your TV eats 50 Hz depends on the model. You'll probably have to try.

99% of the TVs won't work with 50 Hz, unless it is a multisystem one, or a very old model with manual V-hold control.

Surely any PAL TV will take 50Hz? It is the standard, afterall.

You could probably make a cable for the Amiga's monitor socket quite easily. If it can do SCART and composite, it can surely do S-Video.

I was, obviously, referring to an NTSC TV, seeing that it's not exactly easy to buy a mainstream PAL TV in the US and I doubt the original poster is using one anyway. ;-)

@ Zac67

What model genlock did you buy? Give details of your setup (Amiga model and specs, how the genlock is interfaced, etc), please.

You could always buy something like this and use a regular Amiga RGB Scart cable with it. If your plasma has component input, this one would be even better.

@Tenacious

It's a Hama 292, looks pretty Electronic Design-ish. Works nicely with my A3000D, hooked up to my PC's WinTV or a XGA beamer (older ASK A9+).

Its weird if American TVs can't show 50Hz.. i mean all my TVs can take a 60Hz signal (although thats PAL60, not actual NTSC. But then an NTSC Amiga in 50Hz mode is generating NTSC50, AFAIK).

Apart from modifying A520, you can actually make converter using AD724 chip. Schematics is very simple, and I assume it is not expensive. I'd love to have more time to finish this project... but for now it's paused.
